A Florida digital news service is a great idea. Politico's daily Florida feed is terrific, but limited by its inability to draw conclusions from the news. Also, many if not most of the sources it directs one to won't let a visitor in without a subscription. Local and regional news is impossible to come by in vast swaths of the state because of the disappearance of smaller newspapers, so it is tough to keep track of what's going on. With regard to a radio station, Air America is truly and sorely missed here. AM radio in the state is unlistenable and controlled by proto-fascist thugs. (But then, so is the state.)

If you are joining Post.News as an alternative to Twitter there are a variety of news services available there, including Pro Publica. This morning I was able to read an article from Sun Sentinel, dated March 15, 2023 "Too Few Voters Spoke for Too Many Tuesday". What is happening in Florida is voter suppression, complicated last year by Hurricane Ian. Voters have to make "vote-by-mail" requests every election cycle. Too few people are aware of this requirement. I do postcardstovoters.org. They will have the mailing lists ready soon for reminding voters to re-apply. I checked the Tampa Bay Times this morning also. I was able to read the story about the banning of the Ruby Bridges film in Pinellas without a subscription but felt guilty.

Thank you for bringing up the subject of AI. I am a "liberal arts type" and really frightened about AI. Will AI be interpreting lab results and MRI scans for my family, friends, and myself? Will AI be preparing my income taxes and updating my estate planning documents? How does one determine what is truthful anymore? Corporate mainstream media is a great disappointment. Therefore, I will read this article from the Brookings Institution this week:

As a fellow "liberal arts type", I hope AI can do all of those things. It's pretty good at summarizing research literature. As with all tech, it needs a human hand on the lever, expert human interpretation. But it saves a lot of time and is better than the human eye at spotting patterns in data and images.

Dr Eric Topol of the Scripps Institute has a Substack called Ground Truths. This afternoon I read his latest blog about ChatGP-4. He thoroughly described this project, it’s benefits and the negatives. All of this is happening too fast to keep up with.
