Powerful words from German Vice Chancellor Habeck

I appreciate your pointing out that it is the Republicans who are holding these appointments, but frankly I think this makes ALL the Senate look bad. How can rules permit one person to shut things down? Horrible, horrible governance that is on the Senate to change.

Cathy I dont really see it that way. You should view this as a form of cheating. There are conventions and norms here in Washington that were never broken. We never threatened to breach the debt ceiling; shut down the government; abuse holds in the Senate and even refuse to negotiate; attack the Capitol; attempt to overthrow the government; cover for corrupt Supreme Court Justices; attempt to interfere in independent judicial proceedings; create false information for a Congressional hearing; refuse to honor as a Congressional subpoena, as a member of Congress and then turn around and issue your own......the list goes on. There is one party that continues to undermine our democracy, our rules, norms and laws; and another which is fighting to preserve, make it better. Period.

I agree it’s cheating and that it’s one party and egregious and it needs to be pointed out and we need to continue to fight to preserve our democracy. I see all that as you do.

But, if it’s truly hurting national security and combat readiness, and it is, does the Senate as a body not have a duty to address this beyond making speeches on the Senate floor and urging everyone to vote the rascals out (which I agree we need to do)? Maybe I just don’t understand the rules rules and how intractable they are or aren’t.

That was a powerful speech from Germany’s Vice Chancellor. Im still wiping away tears. I’m forwarding this to my three daughters and my friends and family. Calling terrorists and dictators freedom fighters is obscene. As to the Republican Speaker…He’s a smarmy little man. His form of Christianity has about as much to do with the teachings of Jesus as it does to a dog biscuit. Onward.

WTF with that new Emerson Poll having Cameron now up over Beshear by about a point???!!

It's one poll. Beshear's internals had him up 52-44 this week. Emerson not a high quality pollster. But we will see.

Thank you sharing this video from Vice Chancellor Habeck. I am very impressed - very powerful especially with Germany drawing a line in the sand with those that burn Israeli flags & do harm. Biden needs to do the same in an address to the Nation. To reiterate our support & care for the innocent Palestinians. I got emotional hearing from the Vice Chancellor as my ancestors came to the US from Germany in the 1880's. I have to believe, at least those that came here, had no interest in Nazi-ism (is that a word :-)? Vice Chancellor Habeck made me feel proud of my heritage.

Thanks Simon, I just checked and saw that Emerson also had Lake up by 3 over Hobbs and Michels over Evers by 1 (back in 2022). Need to follow David Plouffe’s advice and stop “bed wetting”....

Sen. Tuberville (or is it Guberville?) doesn’t even know what high horse he’s sitting on. He thinks he’s making points as pro-life when he’s technically not objecting to service members getting abortions, just that the Pentagon picks up the travel tab when they have to go out of state to get them. When you look at the harsh reality of all the military positions his efforts have left vacant, he’s actually #ProSTRIFE isn’t he? Does he really want our military to be compromised? Why yes. Because he’s a selfish ex-coach who needs to be important.

Simon and democracy family, please listen to Obama’s speech here from Obama Foundation Democracy Forum. It is an hour, BUT WORTH IT. Like a masterclass in Hopium & Leadership that as you listen, you will hear pearls that you can use to talk to others in your circles. He communicates the big picture with understandable ease.

And the simple fact that his foundation is guiding and teaching leaders from across the globe about skillful leadership and democracy.... that this is happening (period) is a great Hopium hit! We need more like this. Thank you for president’s like Obama, who is STILL working for the common good.

I do wonder if Tubberville is taking luxury vacations on yachts or if he owns a luxury RV. It does look like those who would seek to disrupt our democracy could easily influence just one senator and cause serious dama ge to our national security and democracy (as Tubberville has done). It was only recently (June 2019) the Alabama banned parental rights for those convicted of rape or incest The conditions are that it applies only to cases of conviction of first-degree rape and incest. These laws vary by state and in Minnesota rapists retain parental rights.

We really have to work extra hard this weekend...Although I don t like to phone bank on Sundays cause I either get yelled at by the very religious or by the t.v. football spectators...I will be calling...This speaker is in place for Jan 2025 for perhaps another insurrection...I think we really need to sit on Netanhayu because during his tenure as P.M. he is no friend to Palestine/Israel coexisting peacefully..Hamas takes advantage of Palestinian long distrust of Israel policy..We are all children of Abraham..whether Christian, Muslim, Jew...I am so tired of authoritarian religious nationalism working to slap down any progress we have made in this world. It s very exhausting fighting a 3 front campaign. It is easy to feel despair but I keep saying we have to hope...Thank you for Hopium.
