I am taking this post down. This stuff is way over the top and has no place here. Make your case but lose the anger, the slurs, the threats. Here's what I wrote elsewhere in the chat:
There is a Bernie Bros aspect to the attacks on Stevens. I think there are bad actors on line amplifying and intensifying these attacks. Angry Internet posting gives people permission structure to say and do things they would not normally do. Haley is a very good person, a tireless worker. When I last spoke to her she told me how much respect she had for AES and that she was sorry to be running against him. The way the angry Internet has gone after her has been disgraceful.
And very interesting data about Gov. Whitmer. Glad she is so popular and always good to be reminded that the social media bubble is not real life!!
I have found the misogynistic and very personal attacks against both her and Stevens, from people who are supposed to be our 'allies', disgraceful quite frankly. Plus ca change I guess....
And on another note. Trump's performance at the Press Association dinner was just painfully embarrassing once again.
He has become a massive parody of himself at this point, with no one willing to grab the car keys and hide them.

I was in Trader Joe's, on the checkout line, and had this clip of him at the dinner in my headphones - I had to shut it off. It was so disturbing, so dysregulated, so out of touch, that I couldn't get through most of it. And, I don't mean to boast, but as a native Brooklynite and lifelong New Yorker, I can endure almost anything.
If I were his children and heard this crap spill out of him, day in and day out, I would be working the phones with my siblings, relatives, and close professionals behind the scenes to get him off the public stage in as dignified a way as possible. But therein lies the rub: You cannot have the word "dignified" and "Trump" in the same sentence.
Let’s go with both and I would advocate making a new, completely unique word just to describe the tangled mess of misfiring neurons and barely contained adipose tissue we currently call “Trump”.
I just sent some money to the Maine Democratic Party… Thank you Simon for facilitating such an easy and streamlined way to do something so deeply strategic… I’ve said this before, I don’t have tons of money to spread around… Usually just a few hundred bucks throughout the year, but because of Hopium I know that that money is being stacked with other small donor money and concentrated in places where it will go the farthest and help us the most in our prime objective of taking power away from Maga anywhere and everywhere that we possibly can. I never feel bad about a donation I send through the Hopium pipeline. Could not be more proud of the Maine Democratic Party… Talk about hitting a bump in the road and making a swift course correction in rough waters and getting right back into the race. Proud of my team! 🔵🇺🇸
I feel exactly the same way, Steve. Hopium has focused and expanded my donations in ways that really make me proud to be in the fight with great candidates.
Thank you, Simon. Your consistent encouraging daily posts are one of the things that keeps me going. I am still writing daily haiku for you, now well into my second year.
Please sign up if you'd like a daily dose of hope and light!
happily gave to maine! we need them!!! also very impressed with gov whitmer's accomplishments. sounds like she did everything right!! if only people knew what dems did for them.....
MS NOW is broadcasting the Maine event today and it is great to see it getting a National audience.
It’s a beautiful day here at the Jersey Shore and I am headed to a vigil for the two ICE victims today as part of the national day of remembrance for Mr Araujo & Mr. Guerrero. It’s in a NJ town that’s as diverse as they come—the birthplace of Count Basie—& I’m so proud of how they’re standing up for their immigrant neighbors.
I second that BeeBee. Lisa, tell those good people we are with them and against Trump with everything we have. I would move into a neighborhood of immigrants with joy and drive by a MAGA neighborhood as fast as I could. We know who is the soul of America. Immigrants.
Devon is so great. And this was a moving interview. I got all weepy...What hard work. What gutsy folks. Mainers are known to be really tough. And when they get mad, look out.
I am so impressed at what Witmer has accomplished. I guess this is well known in Michigan but I haven't heard about it in the national discussion. I also noted the public opposition/alarm about data centers, which is pretty much how people feel everywhere. There is a problem of long standing in this country that has to do with the fact that the right wing has a different idea of freedom than the left. They think anyone who has a scheme to make money ought to be able to do so, no matter the harm it causes others in society. To those who feel the harm, their freedom feels like our oppression. The reason we have regulation is because of this.
When you don't have effective regulation that serves the common good, people are ultimately left with the Luigi option, or the French option.
Liked those ads mostly. Feedback on the one knocking the phone out of the (reporter's?) hand. I feel like it lacked a closing tag of some sort. I don't know where it is being seen, but it is likely many of his constituents wouldn't even recognize the guy. I've never heard of the guy. The impression I got is that he is rude but I think many people would be sympathetic to someone being annoyed to be interrupted during a conversation by someone sticking a phone in their face.
The Nunn video is not an ad, just a raw clip of someone asking him a question. Senators and representatives get approached like this all the time and don't react violently.
The Democratic Party of New Mexico and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham worked extremely hard and successfully to get New Mexico into the early presidential primary schedule. If Democratic candidates and the DNC want to know how they're doing with Latino voters, New Mexico is the place to find out as we are a minority (Latino) majority state with one of the most diverse populations in the country. Being the 4th presidential primary is very exciting!!!
Dear Simon, remarkable news about Maine. Proud of this community and grateful for your leadership. When we put the work in, we effectuate strong results.
Question concerning MI. Given Whitmer’ prowess and popularity (love both her and Harris’ zeal, they remind me of each other in a way), do you anticipate her endorsement of Stevens will carry her the nomination? Also, should Stevens win the nomination, do you think Sayed will ultimately work to help her keep the seat or pull a Platner response instead, making it all about ‘AIPAC?’ I have to say, while I personally prefer Stevens over Sayed myself, I have been impressed by AOC’ ability NOT to make her endorsement of Sayed nasty towards Stevens. So he’s more AOC’ flavor…fine. However, I can actually foresee AOC even endorsing/boosting Stevens (as necessary) for the health of the party/bigger picture post the primary. Hopefully, my instinct would be right about that. We NEED more of that all hands on deck momentum once primaries wrap up in full. The more far-sighted we can be towards winning in November and beyond, the better.
Whitmer blew past the winner in the end, Abdul, it's the biggest mistake in her career, Stevens is AIPAC loser, Israel stay away, far away! it's my opinion, I'm usually right, progressive will win this year and the future
This comment does absolutely nothing but be inflammatory… It doesn’t add anything to anybody’s understanding of your preferred candidate, it doesn’t even offer any substance as to what you don’t like about Stevens… having supported Israel at some point in someone’s career is not a one dimensional thing. So just claiming that she is an Israel supporting AIPAC stooge doesn’t tell us anything about your point of view. I’m inclined to think that this is a shit post and that you’re not actually interested in participating in the thoughtful discussion that we have here.
Don’t forget Teresa Benitez-Thompson running for NV-2 to replace outgoing Trump lackey Mark Amodei. She has the best chance in recent memory to flip this perennial R seat - and turn NV’s delegation all blue. She’s young, smart, dynamic, experienced (former NV State Assembly Majority Leader), and locally raised (in contrast to the Trump mini-me carpetbagger who is running against her).

Thanks for removing that post, Simon. I was trying to find a Hopium way to respond.
Can we get Devon Murphy-Anderson to run for office?
She's a rare talent.
Great uplifting post Simon.
Thanks.

No kidding. My Instagram feed was full this morning of strong anti-Whitmer railings this morning and now I know why. Such bitterness.
Thanks for the post. I am pulling for Stevens. That Trump clip… he’s so odious it’s almost unbelievable. I think it gets progressively worse.

I think they will instead be scrambling to cut their siblings out of the will, like Donald did to his siblings.
Agree. They all seem to have learned well at their dad's feet. (Child abuse.)
Odious is a good word. Rapacious is my new favorite word for him.
Let’s go with both and I would advocate making a new, completely unique word just to describe the tangled mess of misfiring neurons and barely contained adipose tissue we currently call “Trump”.
"Rapodius"
Not bad.
Love Rapodius!
Let's do a Hopium vote and see if we can adopt it.
How about “Awful-Cali-Fragile-Icky-Makes-Feel-Nauseous”? We could trademark it and get Julie Andrews & Dick Van Dyke to sing it for us:
🎶Heeeeeee’s Awful-Cali-Fragile-Icky-Makes-Feel-Nauseous
Even though the sound of it is something quite rapacious
If he’s talking loud enough you’ll want to hide your faces
Awful-Cali-Fragile-Icky-Makes-Feel-Nauseous🎶
New hit record?? 🤔🤭
love rapacious. i personally like gluttonous. he is a man entirely driven by his immediate appetite, without any discipline or self-control.

Agree! I'm glad Maine can now get back to beating Susan Collins.
I feel exactly the same way, Steve. Hopium has focused and expanded my donations in ways that really make me proud to be in the fight with great candidates.
I just gave another small gift as well.
Ditto!

Simon, thanks for the great ads. Encouraging! Hope you can get outside today to enjoy this lovely weather.
I'm working on postcards to Ohio voters today. Hoping to finish up my first batch because the new ones arrived yesterday.
Going to the Nats game today!

Is that Red Bank? I'm from Asbury Park and Belmar. As impressive as Marina Del Rey in L.A. is, I'd move back if I could. Never had a bad day there.
Admittedly, I was not very impressed with Jackson during the Maine debates, but I gotta say, I am now getting real winner vibes from him.

It is amazing for New Mexico, and for all six of these early primary states.

if your right in this small window, then rogers wins, but wait till the election then talk
Is this 'bro culture comes to Hopium' or something?
