CNN was far better back in its vintage days – when Ted Turner still owned it. To the news channel’s great detriment, its recent leaders decided that CNN should compete more with Fox, rather than with the serious news providers.

I read the analysis of Trump’s threat to the economy with interest. I have worried that his agenda would create constitutional crises that might lower the nation’s credit score even more. I thought that might jolt the stock market. I really don’t understand why some of the former president’s wealthy backers don’t see the risk he would pose to economic stability.

I don't get it either. If Rs have their way, they'll destroy the social safety net and throw millions of Americans into poverty, many in desperate circumstances. What do they think that will do to the crime rate, which they purport to care so much about?

Nebraska splits its electoral votes by house seats. The Blue dot is Nebraska's 2nd district which Simon started a campaign to bolster Biden and flip the House seat.

Excellent overview.

And, once again, thank you for going on cable news to be the well-prepared, reasoned intellectual, the adult in the room, the voice of truth and the commentator with actual facts. Good grief. It almost seemed the trump spokesman was embarrassed -- he brought nothing -- but at the end they never seem to get it. Its almost like they've got nothing to run on -- but hasn't it always been that way?

Well done. We shall stay the course. Loud and proud.

I'm aware that MAGA Republicans are looking to privatize social security but before that even happens, Trump's firing the civil servants, those bureaucrats who make sure we get out benefits on time, will do more damage to us receiving stipends, ditto Medicare, than anything MAGA republicans can imagine.

This has been one of my projects, "Don't slit your own throat." Noting more ironic than an SSI recipient voting to eliminate the program. SSA retirements, Medicare, VA, Food Stamp , Black Lung recipients voting to sunset their own benefits.

Every dime an SSI beneficiary gets is spent and proves that John Maynard Keynes was right -- causing a positive ripple effect. “Demand creates its own supply.”

Those benefits go into the hands of practically every business.

As a Missouri voter I wish there was less talk about how this state is Red and so insignificant. Missouri had Claire McCaskill as a Senator and she lost to Josh Hawley. Hawley has been a terrible Senator and is disliked throughout the State. We have strong Democrat Candidate; Lucas Kunce and he is successful and winning over many moderates. There are other States like Missouri that need more attention. The State might not go for Biden, but we can elect a Democrat to the Senate.

I’m in Missouri too and I agree. I’ve donated and supported Lucas Kunce and will continue to do so. Hawley’s gotta go!

Lucas Kunce served two tours in Afghanistan, and two in Iraq. He is a man of integrity, a hero that ought to make Josh "Hallway Sprinter" Hawley crawl back under his rock. Probably a long shot, but I would love to see Missouri upgrade to Senator Lucas Kunce!

Just a reminder that Georgia has two Democratic US Senators in the Senate; yet, the governor, General Assembly, etc. are Republican. IF Georgia can get Democrats in the Senate, Missouri can enhance the majority and elect a Democratic senator.

Simon - you were great on CNN. I wanted to also flag that you were referenced in the “Garbage Day” newsletter last week. If you don’t know about this is the incredibly influential internet digital newsletter written by Ryan Broderick that people like Jon Favs and Rob Flaherty turn to first thing in the morning and speak glowingly about. He’s what he wrote last week “ Elsewhere in meme death, Colbert did a Skibidi Biden video. Between that and Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg getting Chotiner’d, I’m not sure the election is going so well, guys. ” I think you are really breaking through and really bother people like Broderick with Hopium, which is a very good thing. I notice you are not on Tik Tok, I’d really recommend you start recording videos for it. Twitter is only inside baseball these days (as is places like CNN). I think you could get a lot of play on Tik Tok (which would be very valuable) because you already make people like Broderick (and others) mad. Instagram is great but, I just realized, they won’t promote political content. You just need to do explainers to camera (really what you do here already). It’ll bring Hopium to a whole new level. Ask your kids, Tara McGowan. I believe it would be good if you can do this but am of little help (I am way too old). You are breaking through with these folks and really have a moment to leverage, I think. Here’s the link to the Garbage Day post: https://www.garbageday.email/p/skibidi-polls. Broderick is on X so you could also just engage with, torment him there. FWIW. Also, here’s Jon Favs interview with Rob Flaherty where they talk about Broderick: https://crooked.com/podcast/the-biden-campaigns-plan-to-beat-trump-online/

Simon - here’s what people are already doing with your videos on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/discover/Simon-rosenberg. I think your am Mantra “i.e, Joe Biden is a good President, etc” would really work there. Anyway, FYI and FWIW.

I don’t know how to read that quote from the newsletter you included. Is he a Republican or Democrat? What does it mean to be “Chotiner’d?” From whose perspective does he say the election is not going well? Thanks!

HI Britta. Being “Chotiner’d” refers to Simon’s New Yorker interview (link below). We - at Hopium - know that Chotiner was actually “Rosenberged!” So, the fact that Broderick thought the opposite is, in my opinion, a sign that Simon is someone who Broderick wanted to get, got and hasn’t bothered to read anything by Simon but is aware of him being a strong advocate for Biden and hope. That is a powerful thing - that Simon is so present in this (very prominent) guys mind. Broderick’s, who is very cynical, main interest is in showing that he, an elder millennial, is way more online than anyone else, especially the Boomers (note the guy IS very smart about many things but not politics). He writes a lot about how millennials, Gen Z (that he sees) have decided to cancel Biden online over Gaza (he also participates in protests), so Biden must be losing, doing badly in the election. So, someone like Simon saying that’s not the case really rocks his worldview, gets his goat. That’s why I think it would be good to have more Hopium directly refuting this very warped worldview. I don’t think he’s alone. I think there are many - very educated, relatively affluent online members of this gen - who have decided that Instagram comments and push back are votes (making the very common but fatal mistake of believing that “all voters are like me”). It’s a very good thing to pop this bubble. Hope, I’m making things clearer!

Why does this CNN host giggle when Bryan Lanza lies outright and obfuscates? Simon, thank you for saying the words, but this is a perfect example of the Fourth Estate failing miserably at their work. There are no "both sides" here. These hosts need to be called out, as well.

Agree. We need more of the Simons and George Conways of the punditry calling out the hosts and the networks on lying, nontruths or alternative facts- whatever is the term du jour. Kudos to Simon calling out “lying” as what was just heard then moving on with the message.
