As long as Republicans are able to get richer and richer off their roles in government will they ever think about the common man?

I love the way Mary Peltola’s deep integrity, Alaskan sense of community and compassion shine through her down-to-earth attitude. Impressive that she is willing to forsake a tempting quiet life for the sake of her chosen political battle – especially after the tragic loss of her husband.

I am so encouraged by the polls that keep showing our Democratic candidates for the Senate having strong winds at their backs! We can do this: flip the House – and win back the Senate as well!

Her willingness to give up a quiet private life also resonated with me.

Indeed, when I retired from teaching, I also retired from political activism. I had other things I wanted to do, and just as I was happy to pass my teaching job on to a younger colleague, I was happy to let the next generation take over the responsibility to engage politically with the union and the party.

My wife and I went off to Ireland fully confident that Kamala Harris would win. But that didn't happen, and here we are, spending far more time on politics than we'd otherwise choose to be. I identify with John and Abigail Adams, who consciously understood they were making a sacrifice for their country. I'm to the point, however, that I want younger people to step in off the sidelines and get involved. I want to train my replacements, so to speak. In the meantime, I take inspiration from Mary Peltola.

Hello everyone,

I send this along for your humble consideration. Over the past month or so, I have been writing a series of posts on what I call "The Big Beautiful Middle Finger." In those posts, I try to give a full and comprehensive sense (in clear, understandable language) of what the Big Beautiful Bill is doing to stick it to the working person. So, here are the articles I have thus far:

1) https://davidsalzillo.substack.com/p/the-big-beautiful-middle-finger-part

2) https://davidsalzillo.substack.com/p/the-big-beautiful-middle-finger-part-f68

3) https://davidsalzillo.substack.com/p/the-big-beautiful-middle-finger-part-7ee

4) https://davidsalzillo.substack.com/p/the-big-beautiful-middle-finger-part-85b

Feel free to let me know what you think, any feedback you have, and please consider sharing it (even to campaigns like Mary's) if you find it useful. Thanks.

Great candidate. Another candidate who understands her state and should be able to win.

One of my favorite memories from living in Alaska was the morning I woke up and found that my neighbor had left me a fresh salmon. And when I say fresh, I mean a few hours out of the water.

Simon, Thank you for sharing the video again of You and Mary Peltola. She is a very devoted Woman to Alaska. She is a fighter, and will Win her battle. I love "Family Freedom Fish"

U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola's description of Alaskans' dedication to community service and the greater good is very inspiring. Her courage after losing her husband in the plane crash is admirable, especially since she has seven children.

I wondered which other states have that high a percentage of Independent voters: MA is slightly higher than AK (65 vs. 62%) followed by RI at 50%*. I love her pic at the end — with sled and six huskies. *https://usafacts.org/articles/how-many-voters-have-a-party-affiliation/

Thank you for this, Simon. I've been looking forward to this interview. Mary Peltola is an inspiration to me. I will donate again to her campaign and the ADP.

I will self-report in a different comment.

thank you Mary! you're fantastic!!!

Self-report. I contributed to the ADP and Mary Peltola's campaign.

Today I'll be working on a neighborhood organizing project for Indivisible Bellingham.

I've also signed up to volunteer for No Kings on March 28. I have the honor of serving on the clean-up crew. (Someone has to do it.)

And, as always, I'll call the offices of my members of Congress. Lots of material to work with these days.

Thank you for this wonderful introduction to Mary....and for the education about Alaska, its needs and its issues. Many of us in the Lower 48 know so little about the lives of people in Alaska, and Mary seems to be a great fighter for those folks.

Meanwhile, my quick self report on a Sunday - writing postcards for the special April 21 election in VA to stop MAGA from rigging the midterms. Thanks to postcards4VA.com If you live in VA, you probably are familiar with this fine group. If not, you should know them!
