Anything that can be done about Mississippi? The rightwing should not get away with disenfranchising black people by claiming they ran out of ballots. How can we help? Also, Sam is fantastic!!!
I got to watch a little of it live, but then my boss needed me to do some work! I missed most of Sam, so I'll go back and watch. Congratulations again to everyone and thank y'all for helping to keep me sane.
Simon, I think it's pretty impressive that over 500 people wanted to participate in a zoom meeting on coming elections the day AFTER the previous election. Congratulations!
Thanks for your great work and your NM connections. Can we all talk more about the Democrat’s values of women’s and people’s ability to choose their healthcare options and being pro choice and less about the act of abortions? It’s much bigger than abortions and republicans play up pro life and the wording sounds so positive, when they’re only pro birth. Democrats care more about the lives of children and families before, during, and after birth, which are crucial values and qualities.
So grateful that you posted this. I really like the idea of bringing all of the many grassroots organizations into some kind of coherent structure so that we can support one another and not just recreate the wheel. We have a lot to learn from one another. Channeling this enthusiasm, organization, and commitment which is evolving organically won't be easy, but it will be very, very powerful, imaginative, and creative, something MAGA and Co. lack.
Bummed I missed your live session, but just had a chance to watch it (hope you get some rest!).
What a good night last night was—and not only because we won in VA (again), but because last night we also won in CT, IN, KY, NJ, OH and PA!
Up and down the ballot, Americans came together to vote their values and defend their freedoms; they chose between "vision and division (https://www.tiktok.com/@kachowgirl_/video/7264199116312366379) —electing democratic judges, governors, state legislators, mayors, and even school board members! And it wasn't just last night.
I will take these and all the other ACTUAL democratic election wins in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023 over "mad poll" disease any day; and I hope you do, too.
Today is a day worth celebrating—escape the media's perpetual doom loop of horse race politics (I've already seen so many headlines today that start with why despite these wins, it's bad for Biden, the guy who won the most votes of any candidate ever, in the middle of a pandemic, and whose record of success is the best of any President in 60 years! - https://www.upworthy.com/joe-biden-s-23-greatest-achievements-as-president-of-the-united-states-so-far) where their obsession with binary, conflict-driven narratives, which force false equivalences, hides the reality of a slow, but steadily growing blue wave that's been building since I began volunteering with Sister District Project in 2017.
Let's keep Hopium burning bright as we keep winning, by reminding everyone we know: the country is better off under Biden, and he's been an EXCEPTIONAL President.
My Hopium 2023 Election Recap - 2023 Has Been A Very Good Year For Democrats
Thanks for posting this. Did not get to watch live. Looking forward to watching this evening!

I couldn’t get it but was happy to see that over 500 people tried to join.

Sam's input was very interesting to hear.
No some of us could not log in, and we registered to do so. It was my first day after signing on to a year of your Substack. Not great optics.

I had trouble too. I was able to sign in but it was loading too slow to follow. I guess you broke the internet!!
Speaking of winning...

Youngkin just sent a message to all the right wing plutocrats that gave him the $14 million he used to lose the General Assembly. It’s full of lame excuses and says that his efforts provide a roadmap for future Republican successes! Sure thing, dude. (Probably behind a paywall, but here are the receipts: https://open.substack.com/pub/vagovernor/p/youngkin-team-and-speaker-gilbert?r=f5mz&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post)
Congrats to all your hard work, simon et all.

As you've noted, for all of 2023, democratic candidates in special elections in Congress and in ballot measures have won, again and again and again—at margins higher than both Biden's win in 2020, or the predicted partisan lean of those places (https://abcnews.go.com/538/democrats-winning-big-special-elections/story?id=103315703).

Watching you and my friend Sam give us lots of hope and inspiration. #VoteDems2024
The icing on the election victory cake, for me, is that I won my race for my local School Committee!
