My advice to those on here who oppose Senator Booker's stance on Israel and Gaza - make your case for your policy but stop talking about "taking AIPAC money." For to believe that Senator Booker's support of Israel and the Jewish people more broadly is due to contributions he receives is 1) insulting 2) raises questions of corruption, integrity 3) denies the legitimate desire to see the Jewish people here and everywhere to live in peace. To be honest it angers me. It is a slur and it needs to end. Make your case on the policy and stop the deeply offensive connection to AIPAC (whom I do not agree with). You might be more effective in your advocacy and have your views more widely heard. S
This type of negative diversion is not helping us beat the very real threat of our losing our Democracy with Donald Dick as our President. This plays right into his and his MAGA idiot's game plan divide and conquer. Focusing on the many positives that Corey is doing and has done for New Jersey and the Country is where I stand.
Simon, not sure if you’re able to open the link. If you can however, where is Maher getting these polling numbers from? Also, do you agree with his assertion?
Our favorability is low in some polls but we are winning the November elections, been overperforming in elections across the country this year, winning in the generic ballot. Failure to mention all that - which is more important - suggests deep dishonesty about the current condition of the Democratic Party.
I agree, and apologies in advance for the verbose response. Hopefully, my instincts are right in that Hopium in conjunction with great independent media/resources like Marc Elias (Democracy Watch/Docket), Meidas Touch, Lincoln Project, Bulwark, Seneca Project, Brian Tyler Cohen, Glenn Kirschner, Robert Reich, Heather Cox Richardson, etc. are all making necessary headway with voters from all sides, who are statistically leaning into independent media more than mainstream media.
Bill Maher has many moments of both constructive criticism but also severe controversy. I feel as though he’s grown further towards his own echo chamber so to speak yet, he’s very much onboard with Newsom as a potential leader within the party. I for one, agree more so with Kamala’s assertion that we must stop searching for a ‘messiah.’ The GOP has done that with Trump and look where it’s gotten both them and us?!?
She mentioned on her recent interview on The View that our bench is quite deep and that we have multiple leaders and should lean into that hard. Not to mention, and I know I’m a broken record saying this (mind you, I’d love to hear your thoughts/feedback on Kamala’s future place in the party…hopefully, at least a future AG), the party should not be foolish enough to cast her to the waste side given her extraordinary prominence and relevance even in spite the election loss.
I digress…I feel it’s critical our party brings that bench more into focus rather than zeroing in on a sole leader. I know Hopium is leaning into the broader picture, so I make this statement more generally speaking, of course. Bringing the combination of Newsom, Pete, Pritzker, Shapiro, Moore, Beshear, Harris, AOC, Hochul, and even Kinzinger, as well as all of their their effective messaging, all to the forefront, can only help, not hinder us.
Against seeming odds these days, I still rather be us! American society is notoriously decentralized and for better. Ironically, the more Trump attempts to centralize power, the further decentralized our society becomes in response. That’s a secret weapon in our arsenal as a Pro Democracy movement which is why I feel cautiously optimistic about our chances in the midterms and in 2028 even up against the GOP’s cheating efforts.
The palpability of a Mamdani win or loss in NYC I feel, won’t overshadow the momentum we’re building no matter how Trump and the GOP tries to capitalize on it depending on the outcome (although I hope we’re ready to counter that attempted narrative effectively). With Trump’ irreversibly sinking popularity (due to Epstein, overreach, and economics), and increasing pushback by the majority (across the political spectrum), I’m not so confident any one candidate or ‘outlier’ so to speak, will be enough to rewrite our movement’s trajectory. Keeping the faith and I believe in my core, we will prevail!!! Thank you for taking the time to read through if you do. We’re all in this together 🙏.
Thank you for another great interview! Some Dems continue to make the perfect the enemy of the good. There is only one party in this country that is forcefully opposing MAGA and that's the Democratic Party. We need to stick together and support our representatives in Congress when they do the right thing even if we may disagree with them on some issues.
And speaking of New Jersey, while watching the MLB playoff games this weekend, I was appalled that Jack C's completely misleading commercial was played over and over again. In it, he shows a clip of Mikie Sherrill saying basically that green energy "will cost you an arm and a leg, but if you're a good person you'll do it". That clip was taken TOTALLY OUT OF CONTEXT! Listen to the whole clip of Mikie talking about these issues - she is saying that now clean energy is cheaper than other sources, the earlier understanding is NOT TRUE. Texas for example is leading in solar! Here is the original video: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BRcgYiEho/
Which national Democrats are supporting Mikie and can help her air the whole video? Trump is pouring millions into Jack C's campaign!
Cory Booker is a smart man. And most of the time I agree with him. But I hope he will dislodge himself from AIPAC and together with us criticize Israel and the Genocide it conducts on innocent and defenseless people, esp. children
I always appreciate Booker's story of listening to his constituents and then deciding to act. He's such a great speaker and knows how to create moments that people pay attention to.
Please remember to add what we STAND FOR, not just what we are fighting against. We stand for honesty, for justice, for the US Constitution, for human rights, for mercy.
Y'all, I appreciate the messaging on Palestine and totally agree. But we have bigger fish to fry in NJ right now. Happy to have this conversation in a couple weeks when we are safely through this election and (hopefully) the shutdown.
I love Cory Booker. I agree that no one should accept money from AIPAC, but Cory does quell the flames of madness and moves with confidence to support his constituents and all of us, who are so desperately looking for a beacon in this terrible darkness.
Thank you both so much! Go DEMOCRATS! WE GOT THIS!!! WHY DO WE GOT THIS? HOW DO WE GOT THIS? You might ask…BECAUSE WE “HAVE TO” GET THIS! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Today sent my daily email to my Republican House member -- his email newsletter is entitled the Hurd Huddle -- today, I suggested he use the following quote on the masthead for his email newsletter:
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free …— Emma Lazarus," along with an image of the Statue of Liberty...
He likely is using the 'Huddle' as a football analogy, I'm guessing. Not very inclusive -- I guess showing his views about women in politics and life in general. Being in a 'huddle' with a bunch of gun-toting Republican sweaty masked men isn't a pretty thought.
I did point out to him that my beloved Grandmother & Grandfather came thru Ellis Island -- and asked him if his Grandparents came thru Ellis Island, too?????
Messages I repeat:
No the authoritarian ism.
No to destruction of Democracy.
No to use of US military against US cities & citizens.
No to ICE terrorism.
No to immunity to criminals in the Trump regime.
Yes to health care for all Americans as a human right and part of our shared governmental responsibility of taking care of each other.
Booker needs to stop taking aAIPAC money and supporting the war in Gaza

Simon, I stand by my opinion, but I am a long-time fan of Senator Booker and I am not here to insult anyone, so I deleted my comment.

Another great interview. I finally got a chance to listen during my drive to work.
Mailing some postcards today. I will hopefully do a shift phone banking for CA 50 tonight.

Ciattarelli is a total scumbag and 100% maga. Another useless Dump arse-kisser. Haven’t New Jerseyans already rejected him twice as governor?
YES. This will be the third time we will kick his a$$ to the curb where it belongs.
Get ‘em, Lisa

I love what Corey Booker does in our country…clearly with so much heart and soul.
PLEASE do the same for the Palestinians! They deserve it!!
Please, Cory Booker — Open your kind heart to what is happening in Palestine.
Please remember to add what we STAND FOR, not just what we are fighting against. We stand for honesty, for justice, for the US Constitution, for human rights, for mercy.

I have been impressed by Senator Booker since he was mayor of Newark. Keep up your strong and important work Senator!!!
And, thank you to Simon for sharing the Senator with all of us.
