Morning all. Sending along a recording of the live conversation I had last night with Senator Cory Booker. An old friend, Senator Booker does what he so often does in our discussion - lifts us up and inspires us to keep finding that higher gear we so often talk about here.
In our conversation we touch on all the big issues of the moment - the battle over the budget, the Republican shutdown, their disorganized response to Democratic demands to negotiate, Trump’s escalating authoritarianism, and his optimism about Mikie Sherrill winning in New Jersey this November. Get to it when you can. It’s a warm and wonderful conversation with one of the most important leaders of our pro-democracy movement.
When we look back at how we got here, now, this place of Democrats finally challenging Trump in the way we all hoped for, I think we need to give a great deal of credit to Senator Booker. His 25 hour speech on the Senate floor in March showed Democrats that we can and must do more. And now we are doing more. They are flummoxed, confused, stumbling. And we need to keep going, keep fighting, keep working to win this big argument with Trump, win the November elections, and win the fall, together.
This interview with Senator Booker is a great companion to my new conversations with House Reps. Adam Smith and Eric Swalwell. Get to them when you can. Together they offer a great window into the current thinking - and optimism - of Democrats in both chambers as we enter week two of the Republican shutdown.

Keep working hard all. For as Robert Frost told us “the best way out is always through” - Simon
