Listened to your terrific interviews with Jen Rubin and Reed Galen yesterday. Both highly recommended.

Great Ohio ad. For those postcard writers in the Hopium family, Postcards to Voters just added addresses for Ohio to vote YES on Issue One. Virginia addresses coming soon.

One other thought. David Ignatius’s column yesterday was so destructive to democracy. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are running for re-election regardless of what a Washington Post opinion writer pontificates. Why are columnists like Ignatius and Michelle Goldberg amplifying Republican talking points? We as a party have far more reasons to go on offense against MAGA and their mission to end democracy. Simon is giving us those tools, and the fact that Joe Biden has been an extraordinary President, one of the best in modern times, only makes the case easier. But it’s past time we stop with the bed wetting and the “buts” - and remind voters daily that freedom and democracy are both at stake.

I chose to not read Ignatius' column. I'm hoping that fewer clicks will make him sink to the bottom.

Please do come help us in Virginia, the last state in the South where women have access to abortion. A Democratic win this November will dampen Glenn Youngkin's fleece-vest fascism plans for the White House. Postcards4VA can get you started.

One note: not all Virginia counties have weekend voting this weekend. So please vote ASAP, but check your registrar's office.

I am presently 76 years old. When I was 10 years old I lost a good friend and neighbor to a gun violence incident. For over 60 years I have been asking for answers to help reduce gun violence. For every step forward it seems we take two steps back. It does not have to be like this. There are solutions that could help. I am not asking for or expecting an end to gun violence. I understand we are at a point where there are too many, way, way too many guns already in circulation. But there are ways to REDUCE gun violence. Why do we not enact those solutions? The answer to that question is the gun industry money and lobbying power. Let’s start there by stopping that. Take gun money and lobbying power out of politics. We could do it if we had the will.

Romney's text message should be all the motivation anyone needs to get out and vote Democratic for the next generation of elections. That the Republicans KNEW, and DID NOTHING, says all anyone needs to hear. Governing has nothing to do with their principals or morals. Caring about your well-being or your opinions couldn't be further from their objectives. We The People cannot have them in any positions of responsibility ON ANY LEVEL until they see the errors in their ways. If they ever do.

Well said. It is shocking that they knew this ahead of time and did not try to prevent it. The whole Republican Party is unfit.

The GOP is not going to do anything to keep guns out of our schools because it aligns with their 40 years long fight against public education and higher education. The GOP is aware, as are the Democrats, that education is highly correlated with voting for Democrats.

thank you for today's post, Simon. I teach at UNC and was on campus when the "gun brandishing" started yesterday ... I saw students running out of the Student Union (where it turns out the guy with the gun was). My brain couldn't make sense of what I was seeing - it was surreal. (https://www.wral.com/story/man-charged-with-pointing-gun-at-man-in-unc-campus-building-threatening-to-kill-him/21047331/)

I wasn't on UNC's campus the first time, but many of my friends were. It's terrifying and our legislature doesn't care abut the people.

Also thanks for the Ohio ad and Virginia; I'm writing postcards for both.

Please watch and share this short "Vote on Day 1 Virginia" video that explains why Day 1 voting helps us win.

We'll have one shortly for NC and OH (each state has different dates and early voting rules).

We need to encourage young people like the speaker in the college classroom video to run for office. And the old folks in congress need to step aside. I'm a college professor and the generation I teach are passionate, smart, sensible, and unaffected by the vulgar power-grab that many of our congresspeople are infected by. They will change our country if we give them the chance.

This Virginia Dem thanks you profusely for reminding people to help us retain the State Senate and win back the State House of Delegates. We are the last state in the South where abortion is fully legal and the first in the South with a 100% clean eergy mandate - but all of that will end if Youngkin and the GOP gain full control. Here is my profile of what I consider the most important and inspiring race happening in the Commonwealth: https://open.substack.com/pub/kindler/p/a-marquee-race-in-virginia-the-woman?r=f5mz&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post. Please invite Russet Perry on your program to talk about this race - she’d be great.

Simon, I tried to copy the link address to publish the student lock down video and couldn't get it to post on POST. I will keep trying. I think the students are going to turn 2024 into a blood bath for the Republicans.

This tears at my heart. But the kids have to vote! There's enough of them out there to make a difference. Share this video with every parent you know!

Yesterday I was at our local HS ordering fall plants from their FFA program. I said to the teenagers as I left, ‘we’re counting on you to lead us again , when you can register to vote, please’..they all gave a thumbs up. I am excited for them as I was when I ‘came of age’ too and we really made some noise and changed the script.

I believe the youth of today are as savvy , perhaps even more so there’s a lot at stake for them particularly. The Republicans butter the bread with promises for us all then take away the freedoms we’ve fought hard to get. It’s lies and brainwashing fed on silver platters with fancy promises NOT KEPT.

Hail to the youth of today , thanks for all who vote! The sad statistics are 66% voted in 2020 of people eligible , that was the HIGHEST ever to vote, other years it has been in the 40 to barely 50% range. This is a dangerous time ahead and EVERY VOTE COUNTS.

BE ONE WHO DOES!
