Agreed...i keep thinking back to one particular woman speaking on Day One about an older woman who influenced her path...of course, at my age, I cannot remember either woman's name, but I would gladly mine the videos to be able to cite her praise of her mentor.
The Act Blue link takes you to "Hopium's Winning The House Campaign" and I am pretty sure the statistics reported by Simon on based on that. It's also evident in every Hopium video from the 11 House candidates and in the webinars.
Thank you, Simon. Hopium has set me on a positive path for this election, and excited about figuring out what I can best do. Last night I started designing a postcard I will send to my network as well as anyone else who wants to use it.
I subscribe to WA Post. Paid for the yearly subscription. I barely read it nowadays. Today they have a piece attacking Walz. Read a few lines and asked myself, why am I even bothering?
SIMON... You are 1,000% correct - both of the Obama speeches were DEEPLY GREAT AND MEANINGFUL. They really do need to be studied, parsed, thought about, analyzed, and re-viewed many, many times. They will go down in history - REALLY.
Both Michelle and Barack are such fluid, easy speakers; nothing seemed "overly rehearsed;" nevertheless, they came off purrrrrfectly!!!
Simon, The link for in depth post on strategy behind candidate endorsements goes to 'with Democrats things get better' i.e., two links to the same presentation
A bit off script here but I continue to be - I don’t know - disappointed, flabbergasted at The NY Times coverage of this race. I fell asleep before Doug, Michelle and Barack spoke so I checked The NY Times and immediately checked out. I found all the videos on YouTube, watched them in total and formed my own opinions. It’s like they’re headlining themselves into relevance.
Lemme guess, they were dismissive, unimpressed & snide in their headlines ? Fuck them. Some outlets will do anything to stay relevant. Perhaps when The NY Times behaves this way maybe it's a good thing - it this particular moment - that certain institutions are less trusted ? Or at least it's a good thing most young people don't get their news from outlets like the times or the post ? Just remember the fourth estate does need NOT HAVE THE LAST WORD!
I can't help but feel that mainstream media, and not just Fox News, is complicit in the rise and prominence of MAGA. It feels like they are failing to report facts and only seem concerned with promoting their pundits and selling ads. NYT, WaPo, and others keep peddling misleading clickbait, that, IMO, is harming our society. <end rant>
Michelle& Barack Obama gave us our MARCHING ORDERS!
Stop wringing our hands & complaining DO SOMETHING!
Do register to VOTE. Do volunteer to work at the polls. Do contribute to a campaign, especially those that will help win the House& Senate. Montana & Jon Tester for example. Do go door to door for a candidate!
All those Democrats at the convention are the tip of the PARTY. WE are the Democratic BASE. When we organize & fight WE ALL WIN!
As a reminder ... I just read that the fascist side does not care what you think, they just want everyone's understanding of truth to be distorted and confused, so nobody trusts anybody (i.e., H. Lector nonsense). Keep moving forward, don't stop ... their attention is not work our time.
Thanks for posting the link to Michelle Obama’s speech. I want to watch it. I’m celebrating the Democratic Convention by writing as many postcards as I can. Let’s keep the good energy flowing and keep rolling up our sleeves and getting to work.
Inspirational, indeed. There may be no more eloquent speaker on the Democratic side than Michelle.
One side question, where perhaps you can offer reassurance: In some quarters, people are attributing the Harris poll surge to response bias? Do you have any thoughts on this?
People are excited again. I know I personally underestimated - severely underestimated - how much people were dreading a rematch between Biden & Trump. I even got into conversations with strangers who would bitch and moan endlessly about Biden vs Trump. I didn't want to believe it myself, but people in my life - relatives, friends, co-workers - have become much more engaged and excited, not kidding. I think most would've grudgingly voted for Biden, but It's a completely different atmosphere now. Night and day dude. It's not in the bag by any means. It'll be a hard fought battle, but as Simon always says I'd rather be us than them - and I'd MUCH rather be us "now" than a month ago! We can do this.
Let's be really clear. When Trump was winning in the polls, the press treated them as unambiguous predictors of the unalterable future. When Trump was winning, he was winning, and any attempt to interpret the data was instantly dismissed as "copium." The NTY, WaPo, and CNN wanted to make sure Democrats got the message that their goose was cooked. Now that Trump is losing in the polls, those same news outlets are tying themselves in knots trying to convince everyone not to believe the polls anymore. It's either "Trump's winning AND" or "Trump's losing BUT" with these second-rate political hacks posing as journalists. "Response bias?" Oh my god. Oh my FUCKING god.
My Republican friends are dazed and confused because our unity is so strong and that we have not reenacted the 1968 Convention. The sad Republicans insist that the smiles aren't real and somehow thousands of people are being beaten in silence and seclusion searching for Walter Cronkite to report it. FOX's Tammy Bruce reported on mass "self castration" throughout Chicago, apparently confusing vasectomy with castration.
Simon, any chance you or someone else will make a web page where every video played during the DNC will be posted?
Every single video I have seen is powerful and truly memorable!
I think they are all designed to morph into ads...
And great ads they will be!
Probably they are (or will be) here:

Is there a live chat tonight - like the other nights?
This might be extremely obvious, but -- if I make a donation via link on your site... assume you/Hopium gets credit? Thanks

So frustrating to have major newspapers support the taking down of democracy. WaPo is exhibit 1.
Remember who owns it
Wastrel.
That's what happens when you have Murdoch trash running the Post.
I was referring to Will Lewis, the Murdoch hack(er) Bezos installed as WaPo CEO
https://www.npr.org/2024/07/30/nx-s1-5055648/washington-post-will-lewis-phone-hacking-scandal
In that case: Murdoch trash running Bezos trash.
Just so long as we don't let em' have that last word! Snarky editorial boards don't decide elections, tens of millions of voters do!!!
Ahem...that would be Bezos trash...

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, KAMALA!
I know it seems like ages ago, but today it’s exactly ONE MONTH since you launched your presidential campaign!
I rarely use the overused "awesome", but that was Michelle Obama last night. Just, awesome -- so powerful, eloquent, true.
Simon, The link for in depth post on strategy behind candidate endorsements goes to 'with Democrats things get better' i.e., two links to the same presentation
my post sent before I was finished. . .
"Do something". I will do more, today and every day until the election. And redouble my efforts to encourage others to join.

The sooner that irrelevance arrives, the better!

Pointing out bias in media is part of “doing something “if it immunizes friends and family less plugged in
But I agree it’s also important to do postcards/texts/donations, etc
So disturbing and disappointing.

Loved the speeches, and your observations-on target, thoughtful.
Wonder why Dems still shrink from embracing our Armed Forces and civilian law and order and FBI?
About time Dems claim ALL of these constituencies.
Eat their lunch in WHOLE.
I might be interested in phone bank based support
Simon is hosting weekly GOTV events every Thursday (save this one) which include phone banking and postcarding.

It's a lesson for them in the futility of conspiracy theories, but probably not a lesson learned.
Their alternate reality, built on lies, is not sustainable.
Well, here is a mainstream article (Axios) on how Republicans castrated themselves.
