It’s glorious news and i am so happy that JD helped the Hungarians make their decision!

It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Maybe democracy doesn't come from a store. Maybe democracy is just a little bit more.

Our peaceful protests have given democracy a boost.

Anyone else surprised he conceded in a timely manner?

Kathy Sowers's avatar

Yes, but like WE WILL BE IN THE MID TERMS - too big to rig!!!! He had no other choice. And so we will be!

For someone like Orban (or Trump) there is always another choice. It could have gotten very ugly. Hopefully this precedent sets an example for other would be dictators to accept the will of the people.

Shocked, BeeBee, shocked. Especially given that he has a country (like Ukraine) with limited democratic history, a total monopoly on force, a monopoly on media that far exceeds ours, total control of the universities and judiciary, the leaders of the three most powerful militaries in the world supporting him, an established Republican pollster giving him cover, via an Election Eve poll showing him up by 6, to either claim the opposition cheated (a la Trump) or for the Russians to rig the vote on his behalf.

In other words, he had everything going for him that some defeatist people in our country believe will allow him to stay in power irrespective of the results, and he got so badly wiped out that he felt he had no choice but to throw in the towel. He stretched the rubber band of reality until it broke and apparently shocked *him* with the force of the sting. Given how gerrymandered the country is--much worse than ours; the districts aren't even the same size in population :D--the popular vote is likely a much bigger beatdown than the 2/3 majority in seats--and turnout was 77%, the most since the end of communism. We should be reminding people of this every day between now and November.

Hail to the thousands of international observers who had the courage to monitor this thing, and hail to the Hungarians, who join the Ukrainians, the people of Minnesota and elsewhere fighting ICE, the No Kings movement, Hopium, and everyone else in the pro-democracy movement as worthy descendents of the Founders!

You said it, brother.

I expected to hunker down and watch this play out for days.

I'm almost suspicious as to why this was called so neatly. Looking forward to reading the analyses in the days to come.

I keep thinking: Okay, what am I missing....

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

Orban will probably move to Mar-a-Lago. Trump can hire him as the pool boy.

MrsCQ's avatar

Maybe the military told Orbán they wouldn't back him? Maybe they forced him to concede? I am shocked he conceded so quickly.

BeeBeeinNYC's avatar

I suppose that's a possibility. Once they had the numbers behind them, the military might have bent toward the majority.

Great day for Vance's Hillbilly Eulogy: Orban Concedes!!!

I hope JD is utterly embarrassed by his sycophantic groveling in Hungary for yet another loser.

What I find surprising is that he was dumb enough to do both Iran and Hungary. He should’ve made himself scarce. JD was always reputedly smart, but I see little evidence of that.

MrsCQ's avatar

I doubt JD is embarrassed. He seems to grovel quite effortlessly.
