Stopping The GOP From Stealing A NC Supreme Court Seat - My Conversation With Justice Allison Riggs

This is a fight we simply must win

Friends, excited to send along an interview I just completed with North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs. Justice Riggs won her election in November but her opponent has been working to get 65,000 votes cast tossed retroactively and have himself declared the winner. It is an ugly effort by the Rs, but one that if successful could become something that spreads across the country as a mechanism for the illiberal GOP to overturn elections they do not win. It’s why this fight is so important.

In the interview Justice Riggs walks us through how we got here, and goes over the latest developments in just the past few days. As the NC Supreme Court issued a stay this weekend there is no “registration curing” to be done just yet. So we wait to see what the next step is.

In the meantime Justice Riggs and NC Democrats need our help. You can support this work by giving directly to Justice Riggs or by supporting our ongoing campaign to raise money for Anderson Clayton and the North Carolina Democratic Party.

As I discuss with Justice Riggs, one of the reasons our community got so heavily involved in North Carolina last cycle was there was no “purple” competitive state in the country that had been so hijacked by right wing extremists. Our investments in North Carolina last cycle not only helped us get some of the most important wins we had in any battleground state in 2024, it began the long, slow process of liberating North Carolina from some of the most ambitious extremists in the county; ambitious extremists who are now trying to retroactively cancel valid votes and overturn an election they clearly lost.

For newer members of our community, over 10,000 of us donated more than $1.1m dollars to the North Carolina Democratic Party last cycle. Many also volunteered from in and out of state. This community was the largest funder of the NC Dem Party in the country, and we played a vital role in making it one of true success stories in what was a tough year. To hear more about our work in North Carolina last cycle watch my post-election interview with the great Anderson Clayton, the NC Democratic Party’s inspiring Chair.

So my friends enjoy this new interview and do consider supporting Justice Riggs and her campaign to protect elections and democracy in North Carolina and throughout the US. This is an important fight, one we simply must to win - Simon
