A group of us are taking the bus to the San Antonio No Kings rally. More folks have signed on since the last rally. There are more rallies in nearby smaller cities and counties.
Hello all—for anyone, like me, who was concerned about the news that Dominion Voting Systems was purchased by a right-wing outfit, this excellent reporting by a local Colorado reporter set my mind at ease. FYI:
Thanks very much for the link! Terrific article. No both-sides-ing and leaving everything in a state of utter confusion. Good, real journalism actually still exists!
While I agree with the representative on many of the issues such as making the party more of a big tent, I am afraid I disagree with him on a fundamental issue. I just simply do not think working with Republicans is the way to win more votes.
I think if the past 20 years has shown us anything it was when the Republicans said they would deny the Democrats any win under Obama and deny any bi-partisanship it was excellent politics for them. It drove me away from them but it is hard to deny that we have never been as close to a filibuster proof majority as we did then. And when Democrats demand changes to the Republican bills it is almost always to make their unpopular priorities more popular and when they do it to us it is to make our popular priorities more unpopular.
I also cringe these days when Dems talk about bi-partisanship. When the GOP stands silent while Trump breaks the constituional order and attacks the citizens of major cities and little Mikey Maga Johnson calls free speech non-violent demonstrations hate rallies and refuses to seat Adelita Grijalva, then it is no time to seek bipartisanship. It;s time to stand our ground, stand up for the Constituion and Democracy and force them to concede or suffer the consequences at the ballot box
However, if for example, Senators get a bipartisan agreement to hold that only Congress can start a war with Venezuela which is in today's headlines, that's a bipartisan agreement I support. So it's not absolute partisanship... but we can't capitulate our values to get a deal.
I understand it is what some voters want to hear, but I just do not know how the Blue dogs get away without getting asked about that that trend. Like the trend goes back to Newt Gingrich in the house.
The Republicans just decided their political strategy is to make Democrats fail at all costs and the Republicans went from not holding the house in 40 years to now where it seems Democrats may be unable to get above 51 votes in the senate again or 430 votes in the house again.
Simon, thanks for the good information on the polls for VA and NJ. Just need to run through the tape on both races.
I contacted Senator Schumer and Leader Jeffries to ask them to stand their ground in the budget battle. I called Congressman Raskin and Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen to urge them to start making criminal referrals against the Trump regime.
I'm planning to attend a local No Kings rally. I have my American flags ready and my yellow outfit picked out. I'm an old woman with bad knees, but Squeaker Mike Johnson, as I call him, pissed me off calling the rallies "Hate America."
I just left voicemails for my state legislature senator and rep (who are team red), asking them to speak up about the demonizing rhetoric coming from the top members of their party on the national stage including our federal legislature, calling the Democratic Party voter base “terrorist,” “illegal” and “criminal.” Taken literally, the rhetoric refers to a majority of at least a quarter or a third of their constituency (approximately). That includes my colleagues, neighbors, local business owners, locals who work in every sector, etc. They should not be okay with this rhetoric about their constituents, which is likely to inspire vigilante violence. I am old enough to remember when the people we called “terrorists” were foreigners who flew planes into buildings or planted IEDs. Now its my own community members who have no criminal history and may not even exercise their 2nd Amendment rights. Just a matter of weeks ago, these same people were telling us that calling someone “fascist” inspires violence. Now, they’re calling us “terrorists.” Our state-level representation needs to speak up for the dignity of their constituents.
My house rep’s voicemail system cut me off about a third of the way into that, which has never happened before, so I think that he or a staffer was sitting there listening and hung it up on me. It could have been some other glitch, though, I suppose. I am going to see about sending my message to him electronically through his website or email since I was not able to finish the voicemail.
Four of us meeting at the CA State Capitol in Sacramento tomorrow morning for the big rally (my wife's sign: "No Crown for A Clown."). The good news is my inflatable reptilian alter-ego arrived yesterday. The bad news is it doesn't come close to fitting 74-inch me. The good news we have properly-sized and willing members of our party. I think I can get some good pictures tomorrow, and if I can get a video of a motley crew of characters doing an impromptu Electric Slide in front of the State Capitol building, my day (month) will be complete. We'll see what happens. I'll be wearing a button that says "Non-Violence is Our Power" and another one that says "Yes on 50." Godspeed all.
For those Hopiates who are in districts represented by Republicans, per Little-Dad-Who-Has-His-Virtual-Porn-Use-Monitored-By-His-Son Mikey Johnson, they have NOT been on vacation but have been back home in their districts, helping their constituents!!!!
Thanks for posting the polls, Simon. No overlap in the uncertainty bands. The polls would have to be way off, not just a little off or within the margin of error, for things not to be looking good. But, of course, no letting up til after the election. Still donating.
Calls are in to WI Dem and Rep members of congress regarding our 4 part agenda. With a request/encouragement to Dem senator to stand strong with the govt shutdown. Excited to attend No Kings tomorrow with friends. I’m still able to mail postcards for Sherrill and retaining judges in PA so I’ll continue with that until the mailing deadline
Hi everyone. We're going to Great Barrington Mass tomorrow where there will be a great turn out in front of the court house. Our signs say:
Get rid of Illegal TARIFFS
Defund ICE
Save HEALTHCARE
Support our ALLIES and...
WE STAND AGAINST HATE
NO KINGS (with lots of art and hearts and the no Kings "crossed out crown" symbol.
And I'm calling my reps and coming down on our Hopium 4 points and getting louder AND NOW ATTACKING D. TRUMP.... I think all three of them will be traveling around the state and attending rallies. It's Massachusetts afterall.
This gave me a lift, so I'm sharing it: there are 20+ No Kings events scheduled for metro Detroit tomorrow, plus a big one downtown. The downtown one is deliberately scheduled for later in the day so that all the suburb and neighborhood ones can have people carpool in and join the big downtown one, too, in a massive show of solidarity!
Detroit has a loooong history of hostility between the city and the suburbs, refusal to coordinate, even on things like bus routes.
This plan for tomorrow is AMAZING!
Good luck tomorrow, everyone, take everyone you know to a protest or 6, and have a fantastic time making history!!
I work in financial services, a more conservative leaning industry. There are rumblings among some colleagues who have shared that they like me are attending a no kings rally.
I am one of three children. We each are heading out in our respective communities (across 3 states). If you knew the oldest of us, you would immediately understand that her participation is more validating than any poll or social media post out there.
Be brave & safe Hopium-mates. To quote Simon, I am proud to be in this fight with all of you.
I’d like to add to this sentiment: my wife voted for W, my brother voted for W, I have good friends and neighbors that were either members of the GOP or solid voters… all hardcore Democratic Party supporters right now. We’re hardly “left wing” (no shade). We’re part of the “Make Austin Normal” crowd if you remember that…
There’s more of us than them, and we care more. Let ‘em know it this weekend. God Bless.
Yep. My dad was a lifelong Republican and as soon as he saw Trump slither down the escalator in 2015, he left the party. He says he feels like he's without a political home, but votes with the Democrats now. I work on him to show that we're welcoming and value folks like him.
Hey Hopium peeps! I requested my mail ballot today for the highly important Supreme Court judge retention election. Seeing Josh Smithleys Nitter posts Dems are solidly ahead in Mail in Ballot requests. GOP certainly is into it more now but seeing a good level of engagement. Fingers crossed this portends a solid trend. https://nitter.poast.org/blockedfreq

Unfortunately, it will be 94 degrees tomorrow.
That’s brutal. I hope you have fun despite the heat!
We are getting rain in Chicago, but I am getting my rain gear out and showing up!
Gottenyu!
Don't forget to hydrate!

That’s great to hear about USC’s rejection of the Compact for Academic Bullshit. I hope all the other institutions join in kind.
Hope all the DC Hopiates (?) have fun tomorrow! I’ll be with you in spirit at my local rally.

My calls today to my blue senators—thank you for standing up for healthcare, and do what Pamela says.*
*I didn’t use exactly these words
Power grab vs govern. If your policies stink, rig the elections. We're all exhausted by republican duplicity.

Gigantic YES to the reptile et al doing the Electric Slide! Take video, too!
I want a picture!

Is there a way to verify if they've been working?

Some in our local CO Indivisible group are carpooling to the Denver No Kings rally tomorrow.
I loved the video from veterans in Congress to support No Kings Day. How can I share the video with others?
