Strong message today. Needed it!

To anyone who said they didn’t vote for the mass roundups and deportations, I say, then YOU need to add your voice and body to the protests on June 14 NO KINGS Day to show you disagree with the dictatorial behavior and policies of the man in the White House. wrong is wrong YOU can DO something to correct this wrong by protesting against the raids and round-ups of neighbors.

Simon, do you have a link to the image of yesterday’s LAPD News Release? I would like to post this elsewhere and cannot find it online.

And I, on an iPhone, held my finger on the image and then in the upper right dots saved to photos if the suggested tweet image suggestion didn’t work.

Thank you for providing actions toward reclaiming our country. How “funny” I’d forgotten the Fourth, so focused was I for WorldPride, smaller than planned because of fear of travel to the US and still robust, to be safe and not be shut down because the haters in charge could, and on NKD that I simply couldn’t get that far ahead! I am now.

Thanks especially for including a realistic assessment of the situation in LA. It is SO important to be active and appropriately angry, but not to get baited. We must not pretend that the situation is normal or anything less than terrible; but it also MUST NOT BE WE WHO OVERREACH! The hope lies in the strong and peaceful resistance that is our right, not in invitations to unwarranted performances of unlawful power.

What am I doing? Canvassing for our State Senator, Deb "K" Krishnadasan, who has to run in a special election this year, as she was appointed to replace Emily Randall when Emily won the U.S. House seat. The Republican running against her is fairly popular and has won numerous terms for her State House seat. The person who would likely be appointed to replace her is reason enough to vote for our Democratic State Senator! I'll be knocking on doors again this afternoon.

Not only mass roundups and deportations against immigrants, but this is the opening for martial law invocation that we've been alert to. Our best move now is peaceful mass united protests on June 14 NO KINGS DAY.

Let us hope that martial law does not happen before then.

It was very disturbing to see the scenes from LA and to a lesser extent Minneapolis.

I decided to sign up for postcarding with FT6 and I ordered a US flag for the protests next week.

Sharing - from CA Governor Newsom:

Last night, President Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops in Los Angeles, using the excuse of protests against his immigration raids.

Let me be totally clear about what is happening here.

We have been working closely with law enforcement. There is no unmet need. The President is attempting to inflame passions and provoke a response.

He would like nothing more than for this provocative show of force -- and Pete Hegseth's absurd threat to deploy United States Marines on American soil – to escalate tensions and incite violence.

These are not people who have some deep conviction about protecting law enforcement. This is a President who failed to call up the National Guard when it was actually needed -- on January 6th -- and then pardoned the participants as one of his first acts as president.

They want a spectacle. They want the violence.

They think this is good for them politically.

That is why White House aides were posting pictures of Trump getting popcorn last night.

This is not the way a civilized country behaves. It is completely deranged behavior.

To the people of Los Angeles and across the country who are protesting these immigration raids:

Don't give them the spectacle they want. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully and in large numbers.

I know many of you have been watching the news about this, so I thought it important to reach out.

Thank you for reading,

Gavin Newsom

I saw the advice on SezUs via Facebook that IF violence/mayhem does happen at a rally, everyone should immediately and silently sit down (place signs down) so that the few perpetrators can be easily seen, videotaped, and hopefully arrested.

I think it’s likely that we on the pro-Democracy side are committed to peaceful demonstrations, and if there is violence, it will come from tRump’s side.

Thank you for the sensible update, Simon.

I've been thinking about these frequent statements from people who voted for Trump and who now say, "We didn't vote for THIS." My first reaction is to say, "You damn well did." After all, WE saw it all coming and WE tried valiantly to warn them.

But I'm going to start trying to control myself and to say, instead, "OK, but now that you see what he's doing, what are you going to do to fix it?" Anyone can make a mistake (although I'll go to my grave believing these were pretty willful mistakes), but when grown-ups make a mistake, they take responsibility for fixing things. Maybe this is a better way to start a conversation and to suggest ways to these people to get active and try to fix things.

My tongue may be bloody by the end of it, though.

Exactly. Saying I told you so doesn't help our goal (further weakening the mad king), so better to bite our tongues and direct these people towards positive actions. I completely agree that most of these "mistakes" were willful and they were completely OK with inhuman treatment of "other" people but when the masked agents came for their communities it was suddenly too much. Whatever, we need to have a big tent, so anyone who is against the mad king now is our ally.

Hi, can anyone direct me to the daily paid subscriber chat? On the main Hopium page on the Substack app, I see a button for chat with a little lock on it. When I click it there's a message that it's for founding members only. I'm a paid subscriber but not a founding member. Where do paid subscribers self-report their activities?

Thanks!

The invasion of L.A. by ICE was an attempt to change the subject from the Epstein Files and the WELL WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE BILL. I saw an interview from a federal agent on an LA local news station who said ICE was following legal protocols, had signed warrants from judges, just doing their job, etc and that the peaceful protesters were breaking the law, by interfering with their work.

I'll believe it when I see it. There seems to be little pushback on the lawlessness of ICE. It appears they just go in and whack communities and, to date, we have seen no evidence that they are taking lawful recourse, or who they are actually detaining.

Today I donated to the DNC through Hopium and to the ACLU.

This makes total sense! Trump must be very nervous about the Epstein files, especially since the hard core right wing is so riled up about this issue.

Very helpful and encouraging post. The Trump supporters who are turning on him now, I believe, will reach a critical mass sooner than we think.

Great minds! I just posted something about how mockery is so effective against this nitwit. I use The Great Dictator as the prime example! Making ruthless fun of our bonehead rulers is an American tradition and great strength.

Continuing to pester McGuire. Cannot wait to see him deposed.

I think LA should be proud. They stood up for peaceful migrants who are working and paying taxes in America. No one should bow down to Trump. Still a frightening prospect. But as you point out Simon, people aren't liking his immigration agenda. Polls are starting to reflect this as well.

It was mostly working class neighbors who showed the courage to resist ICE.

Its simply not true they have more to lose than middle class and professional class white people such as myself and many if not most in Hopium. Courage is contagious.
