Sheila, this is not how we communicate here about other Democrats, and your implication that the two Leaders did not support the two Impeachments of Trump is false and misleading. I am taking the post down and encourage you to follow our community posting guidelines - https://www.hopiumchronicles.com/p/hopium-housekeeing-itemspaid-subscribers. Thank you - Simon

Totally agree with Janelle Bynum-there is absolutely nothing happening in Portland right now! It’s beautiful and peaceful and not war ravaged. This may have more to do with Senator Ron Wyden and his investigation in following the money trail in the Epstein case than anything else. Spread the word that Portland is safe and peaceful.

Just called my 2 DEM GA Senators and left voice messages of thanks for everything they are doing to push back against the regime and to loudly denounce the invasion of Portland. @ Simon enjoyed watching your video with Allison Gill, another message of resiliency and hope.

Republicans' internal polling on the shut down must have been pretty bad to make them go tell Trump he had to TACO. In fact, it's a double TACO. He said he'd meet, then TACOed and said there was no reason to meet, and now he's TACOed again and said he'll meet. I hope the Dems continue to stand up to the bully.

I don’t trust TACO and his goons. Watch your backs, Schumer and Jeffries.

Watch the meeting with Dems be all about escalators and teleprompters.

In Chicago this weekend experiencing beautiful fall weather in a fantastic city--not the hellhole Trump paints DC, Memphis, Portland and others to be. Thousands of people walking about, going to Wrigley, visiting fabulous museums and artistic venues. And a city that continually reinvents itself, which is called progress.

I do miss Chicago. I used to live in the area. The Institute of Art is amazing. And the music scene is great too. I used to spend time at Buddy Guy's Legends downtown.

Am I correct in understanding that he's sending troops to Portland instead of releasing the files? This is just another squirrel.

I think we all know that the Trump regime is hoping to create an incident they can use to declare martial law. That's why they're threatening sending troops to Portland and other blue cities. Portland is a peaceful, beautiful, quirky city and the only time there has been any real violence here is when the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer came to town to disrupt peaceful protests during Trump's first term.

Writing some postcards today. I will sign up for a phone bank shift once I can get the Discord app the CA 50/Newsom people are using to stop crashing. Thanks everyone for what you are doing.

Negotiating with Trump is fine, but I think they've set their demands pretty low, and we need to be ready to walk away and let them own the shutdown. I think it is going to happen.

I enjoyed this sample of social media ridicule of the idea that Portland is "war-ravaged."

https://www.oregonlive.com/trending/2025/09/social-media-reacts-to-trumps-war-ravaged-description-of-portland.html

“Portland Farmers Market was absolutely terrifying this morning. I was almost attacked by a (checks notes) bin of ornamental squash!”

I can understand Rep. Bynum's outrage, but I don't we should be calling members of our military service members "goons". They are being forced into complying with outrageous orders in Portland and elsewhere. Mafia Don may think the military is his personal goon squad, but like so much else his "thinking" does not make it true.

An ad I would like to see if the shutdown occurs. (An ad. What a boomer wish!)

Picture of a family of four, preferably from a red state.

Voice over:

"Democrats are fighting for you in the shutdown."

"The [name of family] depends on the affordable care act for insurance. They currently spend $X out of their $xx,xxx annual income. Without changes, they will need to spend $X more. They will likely not have health insurance next year. Democrats fight for them"

Picture of a pregant women, preferably in a red state.

"[Name] lives in [red state town] and was x miles from the closest hospital for pregant women. Her hospital is now closed due to Republican cutbacks on health care. The closest hospital for [Name] is now more than x miles away. If she goes into labor, she may give birth before she gets to the hospital. Democrats fight for her."

Picture of a man with cancer.

"[Name] has [type of] cancer. His care team has been reduced due to Republican cutbacks. He now has a hard time getting scheduled for his regular treatments. Democrats fight for him."

"Democrats fight for all of you! Call your Congressman and Senators. Fight for these people!"

Just hit the uncaring Repubs where they live. And win this fight!!!

Something completely mundane and apolitical. Fireflies.

Every day here in the north Atlanta suburbs -- starting in August -- I set time out to look for the fireflies, of which we were blessed with MANY. As the days moved into September, I kept watching and noting the "conditions" (time of day) under which they would appear -- mostly light and temperature.

The thing about Georgia fireflies is once they start, they only flash for about 10 to 15 minutes, and that's it. If they aren't able to "score" a mate in that time, they drop back into the grass and go to sleep for the rest of the night. Very much like Georgia men.

OK... they came out and flashed every single day until the evening of September 23. After that... nada, zilch, nothing. Like someone turned off a switch. The weather has been amazingly consistent, so it's not temp or humidity. My gut feel is that it has something to do with the hours of light in the day.

I don’t like the sound of “the DEMS are being told to accept a CR” when the DEMS should take the lead in light of a leadership vacuum. We cannot passively wait. Here’s to a bipartisan effort or damn the torpedoes!

Want to let you know that the link to donate to the Audacious Expansion Fund is not direct but rather goes to a previous piece about it. I made a donation but it was convoluted to get there.

The link is correct -- it says Donate to all Five Parties. The link you probably clicked on is the first one, Our New Campaign: that is an explanation of the Audacious Campaign for you to read prior to your donation.
