I’ve become a monthly donor to NC Dems. I also hope that Vote Forward targets letters to NC this year. That’s probably my favorite activity.

As an NC resident, I say thank you! I too hope that NC will be on the Vote Forward campaign list. I wrote a LOT of Vote Forward letters in 2022 for NC and in 2023 for VA and OH.

If I were to make a bet, my guess would be that they will have social and political campaigns for NC as a whole and a political campaign for NC-01 (Don Davis's district). It 2022 there was also a political campaign for NC-13 (Wiley Nikel's district), but the state legislature gerrymandered the heck out of that one.

Amen, amen, and amen. May the best man win! Great summary. Thank you for this gift as we slip daily into trumpanzee La La Land with our least favorite mob boss presidential candidate. How can this democratic (?) nation let this man run for its highest office? It is a sign of how broken our government is that anyone even tolerates this criminal. What has happened to our citizens that they can even conceive of trump in the White House? The very concept makes me ill.

I thought it was his age, inflation, recession, Israel-Hamas, Hunter....so it's the BORDER that's going to cost him the election. Please.

Wall Street Journal editorial board today: "giving up on a border security bill would be a self-inflicted GOP wound. President Biden would claim, with cause, that Republicans want border chaos .. Voter anger may over time move from Mr. Biden to the GOP, and the public will have a point."

I really like the script that Jessica Craven suggests for using to call GOP reps about the GOP hypocrisy on the border bill. If enough of us reminded them that we know EXACTLY who to blame for the continuing border crisis, they may think twice about trying to play games. At least I hope so.

I understand why Biden or Harris wouldn't do it, but why would the campaign not being trying to persuade other politicians from going to the E Jean Carrol defamation case?

I have to imagine having Kirsten Gillibrand or AOC sit in a day or part of a day of one of the hearings and give a presser saying how disgusting all of it is and how unfit Trump is would drive media coverage and drive Trump into an unhinged narrative opposed to a persecutions narrative.

Also, a percent of his supporters argue that they would vote for him if he was convinced of a crime. Rape is a crime. What goes it?’

John, this is not correct. A jury of his peers found that he raped E. Jean Carroll, as the judge reminded us this week - https://www.hopiumchronicles.com/p/more-encouraging-inflation-data-joe

I would be grateful if you could engage the content on the site, or perhaps read it, a bit more, as you have become a prolific poster.

I think when people say crime, they mean felony. And I think it probably has to be post 2015 to be "new" to people. Voters tend to forgive people for things that happened prior to being in politics if it fits with their persona.

I do think raping E Jean Carroll is vile and will hurt him but the first trial kind of went under the radar and has not actively been prosecuted in the in politics yet. (RIP Desantis campaign) Which is why I think it would be important to the Biden campaign to pour gas on the media fire the defamation case is. Make it a conflict to get people talking about it.

I dont think people understand the difference between felony, a crime, wrongdoing etc. These things he did were wrong, disqualifying, period.

I think his narrative around Nikki Haley and E. Jean Carroll are coming across a pretty unhinged with some persecution thrown in. Especially now that the jury came back with such a huge judgement against him in the defamation case.

More unhinged is possible and better. But the point is to give the press more conflict to write about, and add a player to the story who can bring it up in 3 or 4 days when the narrative fades to breath life into for another few days.

It is about being louder so the news sinks deeper, for longer, so people have to sit with it more.

It makes more political, less independent. These trials have nothing to do with us, our politics.

Will do everything I can to support Biden and Dems. Essential for preserving our democracy. I do believe that Biden will look stronger if he does more to push Netanyahu to put on the breaks.

You do a masterful job with electoral politics: information gathering, analysis, spirited recommendations. HC has kept me afloat. But, electoral politics is not our only or even necessarily most important problem. We face a growing # of dangerous fronts: planned coups through HR, violence through maga base energized as "distraction", 1/2 of state governors calling for secession from federal union via "state self-defense", propaganda displacing oxygen in national "discourse", abandoning our intl allies. Individually? I cannot help us with any of these. All that's left is to expat.

"1/2 of state governors calling for "ecession from federal union via "state self-defense""

I would bet that these are all GOP-led states that are all "takers" in terms of having more federal tax dollars returned to those states than the IRS collects from their citizens.

I'd love to see the Governors' faces when they realize that they would have no access to FEMA as well as other federal agencies if they seceded. Perhaps they should talk to some of the Brits having buyer's remorse about having bought into Brexit.

But I suspect this is just performative theatre to get them invitations onto FOX and to shore up their MAGA credentials.

The question is: Will Trump bother to debate Biden in the general election? Will he actually run a presidential campaign in the traditional sense? I wouldn't if I were him. It puts him in a position of having to answer questions he doesn't want to answer (about being a rapist and a fraud) and we saw in court today how much he hates listening to his criminal acts being listed in front of him. I think he will just hold rally after rally giving very long and repetitive self-pitying speeches about how badly he has been treated and only doing interviews with sycophants at Fox News. In 2016 his campaign was arguably about white men who felt “left behind” and, above all, a deeply entrenched misogyny aimed toward Hilary Clinton. In 2020, he was already obsessed with the Russia Investigation and couldn't stay on message. He's worse now. This gives us the opportunity to attack him on two fronts: 1. He's a snowflake who wants a "participation trophy" for 2020. We should lean into the blue collar, Rocky Balboa messaging. Joe Biden ignores the haters and keeps going. He came from nothing, went through Hell worse that most people can conceive of, and kept getting up even when everyone told him to stay down. He worked to get where he is. Trump is a pampered little prince who struts around in a girdle and a pound of makeup. I think that would resonate. 2. Trump lives in a fantasyland, while the rest of us live in America. He's Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? We should keep hammering home that in his world, he's still somehow the president. The first question they ask you after a head injury to see if your brain is working right is “Who’s the president?” He can’t answer that one. Let’s frame it like this: Do you think you’re the president NOW, sir? Make him into an old man who’s wandering away from reality because he was so sad about being a loser.

I heard this in Freakonomics, I believe, but I thought of it looking at the drop in crime. No one could figure out why, until someone looked at the legalization of abortion and added 18 years. In states where it is challenging, the crime rates dropped less dramatically. It may be a rather controversial thought, but with the privatization of prisons, in my darkest thoughts, I wonder if some have this motivation…

Same! As I listened, I wondered why I had never heard any of the positive facts mentioned in the podcast. Why are we buying the R spin? Because guys like you aren’t being heard. I’m talking about that podcast to everyone I know. I don’t watch any news shows because I can’t take the personality focus they all have--I find CNN and MSNBC hosts grating and superior, and much of the “news” consists of speculation and editorializing.
