Down here in NE FL we are in it up to our arm pits - and living in DeSantistan can feel hugely dispiriting. However, we are not giving up in advance and we continue to work to engage Democrats. Oh - thanks for seeing our amazing (D) mayoral candidate Donna Deegan and the very real excitement she garners in this low turn-out municipal election.
How do you feel about coming here in the autumn and speaking?
It's so odd to read such great news about our economy, and to see how great we are doing in comparison with other countries, but to be absolutely blasted all the time with news about states limiting abortion access, stomping on trans/lgbtq rights, banning books, unhoused people, terrible healthcare access, etc.
But these things are related - the reason the Rs are moving so aggressively is that there core argument is that leftists have destroyed the country. Their argument about decline/"carnage" is the fuel for their politics. And it is all lies. All of it. And we need to say so.
Simon--If you’re tracking the reasons “Why Democrats Do it Better”--My Brother-in-law, Jim Kessler, is a founder of The Third Way, and wrote the report “The Red States Murder Problem”. On Monday he will testify in NYC for a hearing on big city crime rates in response to Republican criticism of Alvin Bragg for indicting Trump, rather than the dangerous criminals “running rampant through the Big Apple.” Another Republican narrative to be de-bunked.
Finally got around to reading this article - extremely thought provoking- I am starting to understand your mission, which needs to be our collective mission, at a deeper level- that we need to break through the Republican negative narrative of failure and fear with the much more energizing truth and this will carry the country forward in all manner of positive ways.
The GOP is not only trying to destroy the economy they are also trying to destroy our liberties. Until recently we were a country where LGBTQ people could feel free and hopeful. Now we are banning books and forcing people back in the shadows. Oh and shooting each other in record numbers—protecting guns better than we protect people.

Maybe it’s time to contact Jennifer Lopez for a theme-song version of “Let’s Get Loud” to amplify our message!
