Throughout the whole Trump saga of the last decade he always seems to do better when he's NOT talking. So let him give whatever speeches he wants and remind people how much of a sore loser he is and put the issue of democracy front and center for us. He is so bad at it that it usually backfires and it may help us to re-engage some of the 2020 Trump to Biden voters who are exactly the kind of people who don't vote all the time but absolutely roll their eyes at sore loser stuff. Exactly the people we need.
Thanks, Simon! I didn't watch the speech last night, and I gather that was the smart thing for me to do. I don't get why he gave this speech now. The more advance warning he gives of what he's planning, the better prepared we can be. But he's not rational and he's clearly worried, so maybe that's all it was. In any case, the more we know, the better prepared we can be.
I called Congressman Raskin and Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen about the war, the destruction of DC, and to say that the president is not in touch with reality, is a danger to us that the rest of the world, and must be removed from office as soon as possible. I'm writing postcards to Ohio voters today and just ordered some more because I'm almost finished with the addresses I have.
Rick Wilson gives a retrospective on Lindsey Graham in his substack this morning. He was a strong influence in the Senate and as Chair of Judiciary. There may be additional disarray on the Blanche confirmation without his presence.
Thank you for sending out the Jim Himes clip, Simon. Everyone- watch this interview! It will motivate you to do EVERYTHING you can to promote our democracy protection efforts.
Including winning back not only the House, but the Senate. Florida is a part of the Audacious Expansion fund, and Vindman, like Turek and Peltola, is somewhat behind his opponent in fundraising. Vindman courageously put his career on the line when he testified about the “perfect” phone call between Trump and Zelensky in the impeachment hearings. I hope Vindman might benefit from our community’s support.
will contribute to vindman today. he is a good guy who sacrificed for our country. and he will replace a maga stepford wife in the senate. eventually fla and tx will turn blue. its just a matter of time. both are purple now.
i have never seen jim hines so animated as last nite. he is always concise and composed. he can see the writing on the wall of stealing the nov elections and he wants to make sure that we understand what is coming. very good interview, lawrence.
Those fundraising numbers look encouraging. Is the GOP cash advantage we keep talking about just PAC money supposedly outside of candidate control? Because those numbers you post look like a Democratic advantage.
It would be interesting to analyze data centers and their impact on the election. I think this is a big issue. In FL, Byron Donalds is running tons of ads promising to protect people from costs due to data center development, but these are being funded by the people who are planning to build the data centers.
It seems to me running against overdevelopment of data centers might be a big hook we can use. We might even go into senior communities like The Villages in FL and run on opposing data centers. I just want to win this thing.
We have a huge low dollar fundraising advantage and our candidates always outraise theirs. For our money comes from people not oligarchs.
Even though the Supreme Court just weakened the historic advantage candidate funds have in the politic marketplace if you have a million dollars and could give it to a candidate, a party committee or a SuperPAC you would give it in that order. People closest to the ground in these races is where you want your money in these final months.
In watching Trump’s latest rambling and muddled torrent of nonsense yesterday evening, an explosive outbreak of vocal diarrhea, I was reminded (but with none of its amusement) of Captain Renault's statement, "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here," i.e., Rick's casino in the iconic movie Casablanca. We are supposed to be shocked, shocked to be told that China (the main culprit, as well as Russia, Iran, North Korea… were trying to acquire information about our elections and influence the outcomes. Who was not already aware of these activities by foreign actors? Presumably only those who pay no attention to the non-classified information released by US intelligence agencies and available from other sources over the last ten or more years? Who pays no attention to warnings from these sources and others about what foreign actors may do and are doing, including those who have access to more detailed confidential information the average citizen does not? Oh, wait, does that include the current President, even when he does not fall asleep during briefings – recent reference, the Strait of Hormuz? The sheer incompetence is as staggering as the cruelty and lawlessness that we learn more about and a growing number experience every day.
My admiration is boundless for the courage and demeanor of witnesses at the second day of hearings on the nominations of Blanche and Clayton for US Attorney General and Director of National Intelligence respectively, both the Epstein survivors and the former DOJ employees. It is apparent that Justice has little to do with the DOJ and Intelligence is being sharply reduced or eliminated when its application and findings conflict with the President’s agenda. I found the saccharine remarks of Senator Katie Britt of Alabama expressing her admiration for the courage of the Epstein survivors and their presence at the hearing even more disgusting – because of their hypocrisy given her voting record and praise for Trump as a supporter of parents and families - than the remarks of other male Republican Senators equating the behavior and actions of the Biden and Obama Administrations with those of Trump 2.
Lie, Cheat, Steal. Repeat. That's the whole tired MAGA playbook. Gave to "Winning Maine" last week. "Winning Iowa" yesterday. Assessing where to go next as there are so many important options. Cheered the new data from Georgia. What a guiding star they've become in how to turn a red state purple and then a purple state blue. Let's Go!!!
You can add this WSJ headline to the mix, "Trump Hits Legitimacy of Election System:
No proof of fraud is offered in effort to raise skepticism over the midterms," the Journal's takedown of Trump which began, "President Trump delivered an extraordinary prime time address," and continued on to list Trump's lies. The only person quoted in the article is Gavin Newsom (!)--who savaged Trump--and a Chinese spokesman who denied any involvement by China. WSJ concludes with this: "Trump also argued that NBC and ABC should lose their broadcast licenses for not airing his prime time address live. (sorry, I don't have a gift link).
Very exciting news from Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania
“NEW: Josh Shapiro is ramping up his efforts to boost down-ballot Dems. He’s pouring $3.3 million into PA Dems’ biggest-ever coordinated campaign launching this weekend. It’s the latest midterm play from a potential 2028er.”
Good morning, Simon. Thank you for your uplifting post. Great news for all our wonderful Candidates who are flying high! Polls are as well.
I had a horrendous day yesterday! I read your post yesterday morning and everything went downhill afterwards. (Not because of your post) In fact I thought it was something special. It was eloquent and straight from your heart. I couldn't comment on anything! My internet was up and down all day!!!! I was able to view You and Rita, but not comment? She is a wonderful, gutsy gal and doing a great job with Iowa! I also watched the Video with Charlie. But couldn't comment either.? This kept happening into the night. I was so frustrated!!! I do not no what the cause was and when I called "Frontier" they didn't as well!!
And I did not get to watch DJT, which I was happy about.
Today so far looks good. I'm not having a problem and hopefully it will stay that way.
Simon, I take great solace in the joint statement by our Dem Governors. Gov Newsom also echoed Rep Himes in that Trump’ demented speech had zilch to do with 2020 and everything to do with Nov. God willing all Dem AGs/Secs of State are actively coordinating with each other to prepare for some sort of effective recourse. My question is, how do we ACTUALLY prevent Trump from sending Fed Agents in to seize ballot boxes? Courts may intervene and ultimately adjudicate in our favor but between a seizure and then, who’s to say for example, the votes in GA remain safe assuming Ossoff wins? Furthermore, how do we ensure we get seated and sworn in if Trump/Johnson delays? Tough question to have concrete answers to right now, I know and yes, our number one job is to win first and foremost. However, I feel we have to have BOTH game plans in place cuz WHEN we win, that ‘mess’ is his endgame.
Maine Dems are trying to move on from the Platner campaign's implosion and self-inflicted wounds. But as Simon has noted, the consultants who recruited Platner, failed to adequately vet him and then failed to disclose the damaging information they ultimately possessed are also involved in other campaigns this year--on behalf of El-Sayed in Michigan, for example. I don't have a dog in that fight, but it behooves all of us to be informed.
Stevens took 40 million from AIPAC. That should sit well with the large Middle Eastern community in Michigan who did not vote for Kamala Harris. And now she's beholden to Israel. Shame on her for taking that money. El-Sayed is not Graham Platner as much as the Democratic establishment wants to say it's so. He's a doctor who has done a lot of good for Detroit and the people of Michigan. Much like Mamdani is doing for New York. The Democratic establishment went all out for Cuomo, remember that? And now everybody loves Mamdani. Why? Because he's genuine. Democrats are often afraid of their own shadows. Be genuine, for once. If Hillary Clinton had done years ago instead of listening to the DNC handlers, djt would now wear an orange jumpsuit. Graham Platner walked around with a swastika for heaven's sakes and that was OK? Big red flag.
My husband saw that someone called the speech last night The Pettysburgh Address and that couldn't be more appropriate.
It's like a rerun of the oldies, available on K-Tel records for $6.99.

This is also another way Democrats don’t suck as we head into the home stretch.
Thanks Simon. We have to do much more. Some sort of plan other than just pointing out how sick the felon who sits in the Oval Office is.

At Liz Oyer’s urging, today, i will call SenatorJohn Cornyn’s (R-TX) office to ask that he vote no on Blanche. Ph: 202-224-2934.

Simon, In the Winning Iowa and Winning Alaska sections, could you make separate tabs so we can donate just to Turek and just to Pelota, please?
Anne if you go to the Hopium site and click on Winning The Senate on the nav bar you can find links to donate directly to their campaigns.
