Afternoon all. Just finished up a terrific conversation with Rep. Joe Neguse of Colorado, the Assistant Democratic Leader and Chair of the House’s Rapid Response and Litigation Task Force. You can find a video recording and rough transcript above.
In our discussion we dive into three main areas: 1) Trump’s disastrous first 100 days 2) the need to defeat the GOP’s budget (reconciliation) bill 3) the vital work of the House Litigation Task Force he chairs. Rep. Neguse is an incredibly impressive rising star in our party, and I am grateful he took the time to be with the Hopium community today.
While we do talk about Trump and the GOP’s ugly reconciliation bill, I originally asked the Assistant Democratic Leader to join us to highlight the work of the House Task Force, which in my view has not gotten the attention it deserves. We get to hear from him about this essential work - amicus briefs, legislation, shadow hearings and more. My favorite part of our discussion is his detailing the importance of the 6 amicus briefs the House Democrats have filed in federal court, and why Members of the House needed to go on record challenging Trump’s repeated usurpation of Congressional authorities. These amicus briefs are very much in the spirit of our Letter To America concept, something I got to pitch to the Congressman today in our talk.
Finally, Rep. Neguse ended our discussion by reminding us that tomorrow morning House Democratic Leader Hakeen Jeffries will be giving a major 100 days address at 1030am ET. While I don’t have a link for it now, I will be sending it along in tomorrow’s Hopium post and encourage everyone to catch it live if they can.
Remember that you can catch my lively conversations with those who are leading us forward in this challenging time here on Hopium under Podcasts, on YouTube, Spotify and soon Apple Podcasts too.
If you haven’t caught this morning’s post that includes a new interview with the great Glenn Kirschner you can get to it here.
As Rep. Neguse says in our interview “the ground is shifting” - we are making progress everyone - and need to keep working as hard as we can - Simon
