I wish I could like every single paragraph in this post separately.

Always! And thank you!

I know it's juvenile of me, but Pam Bondi spends so much time licking her finger and turning pages of we don't know what, that I only hope she's got a little bit of norovirus on them.

Deborah Potter's avatar

That prompted me to check it out on PBS, then New York Times coverage of the hearing with annotations: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/02/11/us/trump-news?unlocked_article_code=1.LVA.q7m5.1g0ozoE3wsXF&smid=url-share

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad common sense ruled the day and the grand jury refused to indict the 6 Congressionals. But the media is driving me crazy with misleading/sloppy phrases like this " . . . participated in the illegal orders video . . .". For those not closely following this story, it sounds like they did do something wrong but there was not enough evidence to go to trial, when, actually, they did nothing wrong at all.

Also, I LOL at the "Excuse me, I couldn't tell!" comeback by the house member who accidentally called Bondi "Secretary."

Meidas Touch was reporting that she has a "burn book" for each of the Democrats, which is likely what she is flipping through to know what form of non-answer to give

KathyintheWallowas's avatar

There does appear to be a GOP talking point series. One of the most notable is the one that first emerged with Spooker Mike Johnson saying "I haven't seen that". Trump used it, and some of the other GOP folks often say it too.

Faith Wilson's avatar

I for one am considering using “The Dow is over 50,000 right now. That’s what we should be talking about" in a variety of social situations

Deborah Potter's avatar

Rep. Jamie Raskin addressed that at the beginning of the hearing.

In a meeting but will make the calls to electeds on DHS $ later today. Sh*tstorm on the Hill & I am here for it! Keep going!

Melissa Carter's avatar

I just made my calls. I spoke to my congressman’s and one of my senator’s offices—a shock to get Senator Gillibrand’s office. My messages always end with the statement that their job is to be loud and save democracy.

Catherine Giovannoni's avatar

Simon, I think your graphs about job creation are some of the strongest tools we have. Once you've finalized them, I'm going to be sharing them far and wide.

I'm calling my MD State Senator today to urge her to vote for redistricting in MD. I'm also calling Congressman Raskin and Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen about ICE and the need for Democrats to keep discussing Trump's mental state. He's no longer even a little bit in touch with reality and that's dangerous. I'm also working on postcards to NC voters - after I get in a walk. The weather here in the DMV has finally shifted and I saw a flock of robins yesterday!

Colleen's avatar

I am waiting for my postcards to arrive! I also look for robin's, a manifestation of Spring! It will be nice when the snow melts! Thankyou for all you do!

Kate Feldman's avatar

Who are you postcarding for? What postcard organization do you use?

As I read this, obviously, I am thrilled that we might have a chance to roll back some of these goddamn tariffs.

But, even more important to me is that I have been learning about authoritarian and would be authoritarian regimes, that you don’t defeat them by going after the authoritarian directly, but rather by crumbling the pillars of support underneath him, holding him up.

This effectively ends Mike Johnson’s Speakership… he will be there, but the degree to which he has lost control of his conference is so profound, that he isn’t even a paper tiger anymore, he’s fucking confetti.

We have literally just toppled one of the pillars of support underneath Trump… There are many left to go, but this is huge.

It makes me wonder if in a complete and total panic, Trump will try to band together some of his lackeys in the freedom caucus to vacate the chair down the road… I’m not saying it’s likely, but this year is going to be so fucking unhinged. I don’t think any of us should assume anything is impossible or off the table.

If Congress starts to roll back a bunch of these tariffs, the blow to his ego is going to be so enormous, that we could start seeing some Saturday Night Massacre shit… He’s gonna go completely apeshit, thinking that all of his loyalists are trying to betray him.

This is a dangerous moment, but holy shit is it a huge victory for us. Watch this space.

I've been asking my Congressional representatives not to forget about Minneapolis. I get the need to rein in / abolish ICE (in my opinion, this will likely be a two step process) but I'm hoping that the warfare on a major American city is also a sticking point. I don't see how we can fund anything that contributes to this paramilitary assault on the Twin Cities, and how we can talk about spending priorities, etc., when that is happening.

William's avatar

Thanks Simon for all of your hard work! Regarding Trump/Bondi/Piero multiple failures to weaponize the justice system to get grand jury indictments, should this be contrasted with Jack Smith who got multiple grand jury indictments against Trump?

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

Seriously a lot of hard work! Simon has been there for us every day. I start my day reading Hopium but I don’t take it for granted.

Alice Landrum's avatar

Thanks for the good news. There is hope!

Plus this:

Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus Ted Lieu (D-CA) says the Epstein files contain allegations that President Trump raped and threatened to kill children

Deborah Potter's avatar

Katie Johnson's full testimony is on youtube, difficult to watch. She dropped her lawsuit due to death threats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnib-OORRRo

Gary Scharrer's avatar

For sure. What are the chances she was the only young girl (allegedly) raped by Trump?

I don’t see any of Trump’s depravity losing support among his followers. They are as far gone as the sorry 900-plus souls who followed Jim Jones to Jonestown. They will drink the poison. No matter what.

Deborah Potter's avatar

Well, we know he is a convicted sex offender, and that should say it all. CARROLL v. TRUMP (2023) with an award to the victim of $5,000,000.

Gary Scharrer's avatar

And that jury finding would have been “rape” in many other states. The judge even said so. NY has changed state law to make it more clear. Sexual assault in the E Jean Carroll case = rape.

Patrick's avatar

Well, not convicted. Adjudicated. But he's a rapist no doubt. And you have to add to that the known 27 (I think that is right) cases where there are claims of sexual assault or harassment. Tip of the iceberg.

Deborah Potter's avatar

Good point, since it was a civil case where dt was held liable by a jury for sexual abuse and the victim awarded damages.

Lisa Iannucci's avatar

Cults gonna cult. [eye roll emoji]

Kate Feldman's avatar

We have to write off his devoted cult followers. That's not our focus. All the Hispanic people. The young men. The young PEOPLE!! The independents!! The farmers and workers who voted for him but who are being SO hurt now. We are their allies, we have to let them know we have their backs!

Gary Scharrer's avatar

Agree. Trump could shoot someone in broad daylight on 5th avenue - and not lose any followers (even if he shot one of their family members)

They are too far gone.. like those who followed Jim Jones to Jonestown.

Tom Thumb's avatar

Fortunately we know from polling that the dead-enders are no more than 30% of the population, and I can tell you from personal experience, even some of them are at least wavering.

And there *are* benefits, I think, even to just seeding doubts and making them even just a bit less enthusiastic, eg reducing how many hours they're willing to put in, reducing the likelihood that they'll vote in every election, given how difficult we make it for even some Republicans to vote, relative to the rest of the world, reducing how many of us they're willing to try to kill if/when he tells them to do so (because they can put names, faces, histories, and more to the "vermin" he says we are (I'd include reducing their willingness to contribute money, but as we know, his supply of *that* from oligarchs and other criminals is basically unlimited)..

All that being said, I completely agree that *all* our energy when it comes to converting people whom we don't already know should be focused on the groups y'all mentioned. I only work the hard-core MAGAs who are in my life anyway.

Tom Thumb's avatar

Bye bye, daughter-effer!

Carol-Ann Dearnaley's avatar

Sorry, Congress only tries to impeach Democrats who engage in consensual sex with adults. The adjudicated rapist will only be impeached - not morally abhorrent, loathsome actions but for accepting bribes and disclosing highly classified information - for money, of course. Girls/women are just objects to ward off boredom - they are not humans, they are non-entities.

Michael G Baer's avatar

yeah but I'm not sure that raping is within the outer limits of presidential duties... so immunity could be a problem. Lock him up!

Kate Feldman's avatar

Holy SH!!! Where did you see this?

Gary Scharrer's avatar

He told news reporters. So it’s out there

Jenny Ellsworth's avatar

Sorry, I can’t “like” this. But I appreciate the information.

Tom Thumb's avatar

I'd sure like to hear how and why the ever-complicit corporate media accepted the claim that the date on the day-early draft press release from Trump’s DOJ announcing Epstein's death was a "typo" when the gd **day of the week was a day early too.** No way, no effing way, and the media has almost as much 'splaining to do as he does. What is he going to say? I felt so badly for all those girls I had to take the law into my own hands? (Really, then why the coverup, Mr "I could kill someone on 5th Avenue?") I heard Jeffrey was going to "kill himself' on Friday? [Insert *bitter* laugh emoji for the sake of all those girls]

The app, 5 Calls, has a new category that's very helpful: Stop ICE from Building Camps in Your State. Here in Virginia, the app suggests I make 6 calls -- the three I always call AND to my 2 State Reps and Governor Abigail Spanberger!

I'm getting ready to call now to say "rein in ICE". And, in Virginia, don't allow ICE to lease or build any more detention centers in VA. Also, closely monitor existing ICE detention facilities in VA to ensure that they are limited to criminals and provide humane conditions.

Kate Feldman's avatar

This is great. Thank you

WA's avatar

Calls are in to WI elected members concerning ICE, detention centers, Epstein and Tariffs. Thanks for all you do, Simon, it really helps during this chaotic time.

The people have led this fight and we have turned the tide. Let's thank our Reps and never stop standing up and speaking out. What did Tom Morello say? The future of our democracy is being decided on the streets of Minneapolis. They deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. Let's all be freedom fighters for freedom, peace, and democracy.

ArcticStones's avatar

The Nobel Peace Prize to the peaceful protestors of Minneapolis – that would be the most perfect rebuke of Trump! In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this pushed him over the edge and caused a coronary.

Lisa Iannucci's avatar

That would mean he actually has a heart. That's highly questionable IMHO. :(

Tom Thumb's avatar

Truly, AS. If the rest of the world really wants to get rid of him, their best (and most accurate!) bet is to give next year's Peace Prize to Minneapolis--who in the world deserves it more?

If he can't have a coronary due to the lack of the appropriate organ, there's always the probability of an apoplectic stroke, though that assumes he has a brain, which might be even less likely...

Kate Feldman's avatar

I love your irreverence. So refreshing.

Michael G Baer's avatar

All I can think of since I woke up this AM and read the latest updates, is that trump must be forced to resign. I believe Jamie Raskin. He reports that scumbag trump appears in the first half of Epstein files 1,000,000 times. YES, ONE MILLION TIMES👹 It's nonsense that he can continue to hold office!

The House repubs are breaking ranks now and must keep going. Trump must be forced to resign!!! No impeachment BS...Trump must be forced to resign now...soon...by end of February.
