What we are doing is directing people to join us to take positive action. For us that means educating voters in Virginia about the upcoming election on November 7. Crushing MAGA here will send a message. Join us at the Summit on July 22-23 - check it out at NetworkNova.org - and Simon will be speaking - in-person - WOO HOO!

A massive rebuke on election day in Virginia is vital—that means flipping the House of Delegates AND deepening our majority in the Senate. Virginia is the ONLY state in the south without a total abortion ban...we can't afford to lose the only nearby safe haven for 36 million women!

Such a great way to start the weekend.🙏And, yes, Jessica Craven is great. And funny. And positive. Anybody who’s still reading The Drudge Report should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks for the positive energy. But, we must also NEVER, ever forget we are fighting against fascism.

This week's attacks on anti-discrimination in college admissions, the rights of our LGBTQ neighbors, friends and family, and a generation saddled with usurious education debt, by corrupt MAGA Republican judges, must be defeated at the ballot box—while we still have a ballot box.

To be clear, there is NOTHING ‘conservative’ about the cronies on SCOTUS, who are bought and paid for by a wealthy, well-connected few. They are stripping our freedoms from us.

“Conservatism is a type of political belief that supports emphasis on traditions and relies on the individual to maintain society.”

These corrupt judges are literally overturning decades of legal tradition and the rule of law itself to promote a fascist state where government gets to ban our bodies, books, history, science AND votes, so a straight, white patriarchal minority can deny the majority of us our freedoms for their profits and backward beliefs.

Thank you! Sharing widely.

And here's some economic hope with a plan on the local scale. My husband, Ken Walchak and his brother, Ed sold their 99 year old third generation family hardware business to their 65 fine employees. This hardware store in Chicago is a community, an international enclave, onto itself.

Press release:

LANDMARK COMPANY SOLD IN ESOP DEAL: CLARK-DEVON HARDWARE NOW EMPLOYEE OWNED

(CHICAGO, IL) After 99 years and three generations of family ownership, Clark-Devon Hardware Co., Inc, Chicago’s largest independent hardware store located at 6401 N Clark Street, has been sold. Its new owners are the 65 people who work there.

As its century celebration nears, co-owners and brothers Ken and Ed Walchak, who have headed the growth of this Chicago icon for the past 50 years, chose to sell the company to its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

“We wanted the business that our father and grandfather built and nurtured to continue while maintaining the reputation, the culture and the commitment to the community and our customers that they taught us,” explains Ed Walchak in making the ownership announcement. “We found the structure of an ESOP was the best way to reward the people who helped us build the business, thus helping create personal wealth while ensuring the long term success of the company.”

Clark-Devon Hardware is now 100 percent employee owned with all the benefits of ownership accruing to its employees, many of whom have been with the company for decades. “We are grateful Ken and Ed considered an ESOP for passing the baton of this amazing business which has built its great reputation for decades” said Xan Flink, the new CEO. “I hope our stewardship honors them and their family.”

With this transition, Clark-Devon’s new employee-owners will join about 14 million employee-owners nationwide in 7,000 companies. Clark-Devon becomes one of only 300 ESOPs in Illinois and one of just a handful that operate in the retail space.

About Clark-Devon Hardware

Clark-Devon Hardware, located at the corner of Clark St. and Devon Ave. on Chicago’s north side, has been an important part of the Rogers Park community since 1924. The ‘Hardware Clock’ has graced the corner of the building since 2007 and has become an iconic symbol of the neighborhood. Clark-Devon has built an enviable reputation over the years by consistently providing high quality service and expert advice to every person who steps into the store and is a member of the co-op Do it Best. Its knowledgeable, experienced and friendly staff have helped it grow from a small neighborhood store to Chicago’s largest independent hardware store and a major provider of property maintenance supplies throughout metropolitan Chicago.

The new employee-owned Clark-Devon Hardware will continue the culture of outstanding service to customers and community that the Walchak family founded so many years ago.

Have to say, just watched the episode of The Bear with Jamie Lee Curtis in it last night. It exploded my brain. One of the best single episodes of TV I've seen. I second your recommendation--LOVE the Bear. Also thanks for the shout out, Simon!
