I generally agree. I want to see state polls. Is 2024 going to be a nail biter? Of course it is, but when are these races not?

Thanks, Simon. I already have people in my FB feed who were moaning about the NYT poll but because I follow you and understand how the red wave failed, I'm not worried. And I told them to check out your substack!

The pro democracy movement ( disenfranchised R’s, I’s, D’s) unite to win as many races as we can with a nationwide focus here! Pro democracy will prevail.

Yes Yes Yes and YES! How can anyone be so damn boneheaded as to be unable to see this?

He (Biden) was not my first choice "then" but he damn sure is my go to "now!"

I see little value in national polls, even polls in swing states. The election is going to be decided by the rate of turnout of black men and young people in about half a dozen states. Its a tiny portion of the national population but will decide the election. If turnout among those groups is good, then Biden wins decisively. If turnout is poor, then the election will be close and the attitude of swing voters may be decisive. Polls are not really relevant in predicting turnout among those groups, as far as I know.

I’m not watching the polls because it is disheartening to think that TFG has that much support period. That is the discouraging part in all of this and the part I really don’t understand. The other part I really don’t understand is the hatred of Biden and the depiction of him as a Socialist. Onward.

Couldn't agree more...the only variance is to employ a messaging framework that centers on people's shared values, rather than party or policy. Excellent resource for this via Anat Shenkar-Osario and foundational work from George Lakoff here https://escholarship.org/content/qt4wf1n73v/qt4wf1n73v_noSplash_ba3c299eb67edc03bbf7c7d62bf63f23.pdf?t=npqgkj and on Substack at https://framelab.substack.com

I have followed George Lakoff and his framing work since 2016… His ideas kept me sane then-still do :-) I appreciate your mentioning GL!

I first heard about George's writings back in 2008!!! But I didn't really fully dive in and follow consistently until 2018. He's now one of my heroes, along with Heather Cox Richardson. They've both kept me sane.

Thank you Simon. Having that extra framing of the issue helps. I admit to being a little rattled by that poll and was watching for what you had to say about it. I feel better now.

Diana, I keep seeing the EVIDENCE of a large Democratic sweep in 2024. Broadly, we have momentum behind us in all the states we won in 2020, including GA and AZ. Nothing has diminished out standing in the majority blue states elsewhere. THINK about these states, and watch the news with this perspective in mind.

Trump and the right are dragging concrete shoes around with the indictments AND their unpopular positions. Biden has the wind behind our sails with the economy, and being the elder statesman of American politics. Biden is the captain of American "Economic Democracy."

Biden's age is his "elder statesman of American politics."

Jack Smith and Fani Willis will not save us. We have to do the daily work of making the case for Biden.

I just took a closer look at the New York Times article, including the photographs and legends of each photograph. Turns out there’s another sampling of over 818 registered Republicans. Out of 1368. responding

The Right Wing Propaganda Machine churns night and day, lying to ordinary people about things that matter. It's insidious. Voters are being lied to, over and over again, with expert skill and evil intent. We have to push back against the Propaganda Machine, not accept one iota of its noise as real or credible. In other words, get loud.
