Great to get this first thing in the morning. Still engaged in cabin renovation--think camping in a construction site. I’m on my way to town to drop of 50 postcards for Activate America’s gun safety campaign. Will find a shop to print out 50 more addresses and keep on writing postcards. It helps😊
Thanks Simon. This is all very encouraging as electoral activity picks up in the state of Virginia. We have tough races in both the VA House of Delegates and the Senate. Early voting starts Sep 22.
I've been--as probably every other Democrat has--pondering why the polls show Americans dismissing good economic news, particularly in respect to inflation. I believe the disconnect lies with the method of calculating "core inflation." It doesn't include food and energy, which are the most immediate concerns of people day to day, at the gas pump, in the store. Economists use core inflation as the truest measure of long-term inflation, but because it specifically leaves out food and energy (on account of their volatility), its picture at any moment in time can be deceptive.
A modern industrial economy runs on energy. Unless the Saudis and other producers relent on oil production cuts, I'd expect energy prices to stay high for quite a while. I suspect they are trying to bend our economy in favor of Republicans politically in 2024.
I don’t understand why Trump is still considered a viable candidate (on so many levels).
The Constitution has a remedy for traitors like him (and everyone in the Freedom caucus):
“No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
Perhaps there is a multi-step long-game from Jack Smith to arrive at this determination after other charges are brought against Trump--but it seems like a pretty clear solution, to me.
When I went to mail my postcards and run a few errands, I had a least seven encounters with people, all of them positive. I did not meet one angry person this morning. The only really angry people I've "encountered" have been on news broadcasts. I keep asking myself why we pay so much attention to angry people and give them so much airtime when the majority of us aren't. This is ridiculous.
