On Polymarket, the Peter Thiel-owned betting site, Trump has continued to maintain a (slight) lead over Harris, even as every other indicator on the planet suggested a race tilting Harris's way. Well, this morning, Peter Thiel's Polymarket has finally succumbed to the obvious. Harris is now a 52% to 46% favorite there.

Thank you, Simon, for being such an incredible leader and facilitator in this movement. Your smarts are invaluable! And yesterday’s rally in AZ was totally electric! To be among 20,000 of my closest, likeminded friends and to hear from wonderfully good and kind leaders was so very inspirational! I cannot even capture in words how high I feel coming off of yesterday’s rally event!!! We are going to win!!! 💙🇺🇸

I thought it was so great that the GOP mayor of Mesa AZ spoke at the rally: “For people like me, who have always voted Republican but don’t recognize today’s GOP- you don’t owe that party anything.”

Simon has talked before about permission structures in voting, and these prominent Republicans coming out and saying they’re voting for Harris because the GOP has betrayed their values is creating that permission structure for other unhappy GOP/Independent voters.

Yeah, it was perfectly stated. I have so much respect for him and what he has done in Mesa all these years. I felt like he was really present during COVID and has been on top of the homeless and high rents situations. Not afraid to find solutions. I cried when I saw the 3 mayors together on the stage. So moving! We have some wonderful leadership.

Feeling joy and optimism is not only good for the soul, but it is a key to combatting autocracy. The literature shows that autocrats want citizens to feel powerless, deflated, confused and cynical. Harris and Walz are providing the path for us to take back our democracy!

87 days everyone. Now is the time when we work harder. We make a few more calls, we knock on a few more doors, we register a few more voters. This is when we go to the wall to end his campaign. This is when we work to run up the score. “We can sleep when we are dead!”

Good morning, Simon - I'm sharing this email from a 65 year old sand and gravel businessman in KS. The issues he is raising are brand new to me. If Biden could repeal/ revise the regulations he's talking about - what kind of difference would that make? This is an example of voters who don't feel seen, heard or understood in their daily lives and challenges, some of which are exacerbated by "democratic policies". I'd love to hear your perspective on this - or your guidance on who to speak to about this issue?

"Thursday I met with a man I hold in high regard. A man who has built a very successful ag business practically from nothing with hard work and intelligence. He will never vote for Harris.

He is voting against nonsensical governmental over reach.

The Democrats and their policies are to blame for Trump ever getting into office the first time and their short sighted outlook will quite likely put him back in the white house.

I have a friend whose business was fined $150,000. On his property under current law if there is a 2" rain event at 2 a.m. Sunday morning occurs and the rain water leaves his property his staff needs to sample the runoff, send it to a lab, record the results in the Storm water book.

His staff did get up a 2 a.m. took the sample, sent it to the lab ( it was only rain water no contaminates), but the office staff failed to record it in the book. The report from the lab was there, just not recorded in the book. They took it to court and got the fine reduced to $105,00 and paid $40,000 in legal fees. People that go through this kind of nightmare are not likely to ever support the politicians that promote this kind of governmental over reach.

The WOTUS rule that Obama implemented by presidential degree ( not through Congress or Rules and Regs) is another example of governmental over reach. 80% of Ks is under that rule. Trump reversed it. In an incredibly stupid move Biden re-implemented it. If Biden had had taken a more realistic approach instead of rubber stamping Obama policy he would not of affirmed that these folks would appose him as well. The rest of the Democractic leadership seemed to have missed the obvious message that the nation is tired of this nonsensical governmental over reach. They put Trump in office the first time because of this far left nonsense.

Back to the WOTUS rule, I doubt that Biden begins to understand what that rule does. By the letter of the rule every time anyone is going to move any dirt (dig a basement , build a pond dam, any earth work) you need permission from the EPA or dual state agency tasked with implementing the rule. First off there is not enough staff in the country to process all those permits. The idea that I would need permission from the federal government to put a new field entrance into a field on my land is absurd.

This is one example of hundreds of policies that make no sense. People that work 9 to 5 and never own or operate farms or businesses do not realize how wrong these policies are. But the people getting fine $150,000 because they failed to record rain water test results are sick and tired of this nonsense.

The more people I hear express their concerns the more afraid I am the Trump will be re elected. In my mind the blame will rest firmly on the Democrats and their over reaching policies."

So clean drinking water as backed by science isn't your thing? Whether bookkeeping inadvertently or willfully didn't record the omission isn't the point, there were rules and they were broken. The fine sends a message. But don't worry, in 2023 the U.S. Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom, scrapped a good chunk of WOTUS. So pollute away.

Yeah my son works for a regulatory agency and they were disgusted with the wetlands decision, which was not based on any science. My son did the hard work of getting his masters and knows ecology; the SCOTUS does not. What makes a wetland is settled science.

No, it's not the regulations - I've heard similar stories wrt other environmental regulations - imo the problem was not the regulations but absence of help for the small entrepreneur at the implementation. The difficulties - financial, lack of staff, cost of staff training, and staff time for the additional steps - for small business/ farm/ ranch etc were prohibitive hence the implementation favored large and corporate endeavors. Those desiring no regulation call it 'government overreach' and get votes for T

I agree. A $145,000 expense ($105K reduced fine and $40K legal fees) is out of proportion to the mistake made.

I know of farmers who feel burdened by some environmental regulations. I think we are mistaken to disregard their concerns. Protecting our environment is important, but it needs to be done fairly.

There is a strong "keep government out of our lives" sentiment among many rural Americans, which is one reason why the GOP's traditional "small government" philosophy appeals to them. Maybe we could do a better job of demonstrating the ways in which the federal government has helped them and their communities.

Democrats have overlooked or de-prioritized the needs of rural Americans for a long time. There are exceptions, of course, but overall that's been the case. We can't expect rural Americans to vote for us if we only come calling at election time.

While I agree that there are some burdensome and unreasonable regulations, and with your larger point about why there's underlying dislike of government regulation, I'm not sure I buy this person's account. I'm guessing there were some different or additional violations beyond failing to note the test results in a record. It sounds like this extended quote is a retelling of the original businessman's story, so perhaps some pertinent facts were overlooked, misunderstood or distorted along the way.

Also, I'd be more sympathetic to Republicans' complaints about regulations if they weren't so hypocritical. They're all against regulations except when they want to regulate something, like women's health care decisions, what we can read, who can vote, what we teach in schools, etc.

Hi Laura, I do agree with John that this topic probably belongs in another forum. I also agree with Leon in not quite buying the account; the specific pollutant or contaminant is missing from the story. Moreover, industrial pollution is a very serious issue affecting our environment, please see https://kansasriver.org/protect/pollution-from-runoff/ Finally, your Kansas friend should know that the Clean Water Act was passed *unanimously* by the Senate, including 37 OMG 37 Republican Senators!!!

Sorry everyone I'm defending Democrats here, and now will get back to postcarding and donating bc when we fight, WE WIN!

Friends, we have no idea if any of this is true.
