I'm not sure if this will have everything you're looking for, but Chicago's public radio station WBEZ will have live coverage and commentary every evening next week, starting at 8pm Central Time. https://www.wbez.org/
Our local public television station WTTW might also have live coverage. https://www.wttw.com/
Did you find what you were looking for, Russell? I was very disappointed that WBEZ (a National Public Radio affiliate) only broadcast some of the speeches. They spent way too much time on "commentary," which I didn't bother to listen to. I have often found NPR's commentators to be cursory or boilerplate, and sometimes not very well informed themselves.
P.S. I frequently listen to the BBC NewsHour, and I wish American broadcast journalists were as knowledgeable as BBC reporters and as gutsy in asking tough follow-up questions. Kudos also to the Brits for the excellent print reporting in The Guardian.
Donald Trump - The Country Club candidate. He really gets you - if you have $250k to $850k to join one of his clubs. A real man of the people for sure.
Very good news indeed ! Although that Georgia poll surprises/bothers me. I personally hope Harris can make further inroads there. Maybe not worth dwelling a ton on, but I did look at some 2020 Biden vs Trump polling and find that while Biden did occasionally poll ahead in that race ( and of course ultimately win the state) Trump still led frequently as well. I really want Harris to get Georgia as well! She/We Need as much of an Electoral College cushion as we can get !
Just saw the NYT headline! Simon, a couple of us brought this up in our Thurs. night winning the house chat - can we get the DNC to add encouraging early voting to their phonebanking scripts? I've done a few phonebanks with them and we're calling super supporters who signed up to volunteer or confirm attendance at rallies. They are an especially great group to explain why voting early matters because they want to help - I try to add it to all of my conversations and most people I talk to don't know it can actually help us win. I did add this to my phonebank debrief form today.
Let's hope the DNC, the Abrams Machine, Field Team 6, Indivisible and any pro-voting organization dedicated to the cause moves in there ASAP. This is the state that gave of Ossoff and Warnock after all! Come on Georgia!!!
Georgia will tighten up. Harris is making huge gains with Black voters and there is trouble with the GOP there. Remember how we got the senate majority by winning that runoff election in 2020. What I know for sure is that no one is going to win Georgia by four points. It will be less than a percentage point and it can very easily be us instead of them. I don’t even think that the impact of her campaigning in Atlanta has shown up in the polls yet.
Given the systematic disenfranchisement ("voter challenge") that is happening in Georgia, we need to encourage *everyone* there to check their voter registration status.
Hopefully the good work of Field Team 6 and other voter registration efforts will be more than enough to offset the Georgia voter purges.
All those NYT polls, including PA, MI and WI, tell me ground game could be determinative in every single state. Every single state. That’s what MOE is about.
And while I’m happy we are leading in all but GA and NV, I fucking want to win them all.
We can’t let up. We got to have sustained enthusiasm and effort through the election and be prepared to continue our efforts post election to rid ourselves of the evil orange menace.
In addition to MOE (Margin of Error), we need to massively overcome what I call the MOC ("Margin of Cheating"). That’s why Simon’s "Let’s get to 55" is so important! It places us well beyond just about any of their shenanigans.
This November we need a Pink Tsunami and a massive Blue Wave! And if we do the work, we’re gonna get it! :)
The crosstabs on the GA poll are crazy town. Across the board, it seems most categories should be flipped and the ones that are somewhat consistent with current voting trends are still well outside what other pollsters are getting.
Not sure what’s going on there. Maybe a bad sample (difficult time getting responses) or the weighting badly skews these categories?
Hard to say, but for sure that Georgia poll is downright wacky.
Hey everyone. Kamala’s speech in NC was terrific. Watch it for so many reasons- joy, clarity about what she’s up to, and to get to know her more and more. She’s a force! But personable, relatable and warm. I can’t believe we’re going to have a rock star woman in the White House.
And then she did the standard “go to a small local store and buy a state specialty with the governor of the state” and it was charming. She bought pickles and cookies for Doug, cracked a few jokes with Governor Cooper, warmly thanked the store worker by name- it was great.
Those moments with Governor Walz where she’s teasing him about not using seasonings on his tacos was another really humanizing moment. They’re both real people, which is such a contrast to Trump/Vance. And that matters- it matters that they seem like actual people we could know.
To my earlier comment about the Georgia poll - any Georgia people here? If so, do you have a sense of what's going on down there? Do you think Harris has started to change the atmosphere there the way she - knock on wood - appears to have elsewhere ? Are young people feeling energized ?
The same thing is happening everywhere. Trump’s base is being reduced to his most fanatical supporters who compete with one another to see who can be the most servile and scraping when praising their dear leader. Everyone else is completely done with the stale and repetitive schtick of this elderly clown.
There's a coalition to build there with Black voters, South Asian voters in RTP, suburban women and young people in the Triangle, the Triad and the Piedmont, and disaffected middle class Republicans who want to see an end to the housing crisis that has plagued that state for so long. I've been writing to unregistered voters in Rocky Mount this week through Field Team 6. I would love to see Obama come through and do some campaigning for Kamala. https://www.fieldteam6.org/
I want her to win, but beyond just winning I would get so much personal satisfaction from Trump losing by a much bigger margin than before. Just hammer in what a loser he and MAGA are.
I think the protests will be smaller now that Biden is no longer on the ticket. People were convinced he could "turn off the tap" of money to Israel and they would suddenly run out of rockets or something. It was naive. Netanyahu and Hamas are both bad actors operating in bad faith and neither of them has an ounce of compassion for the people of Palestine. We are extremely limited in our options for getting a ceasefire. But the DNC knows how to handle protests, and they will be outside the actual convention. They would have been bigger with Shapiro on the ticket, I think. People I know who were very motivated by Gaza saw Kamala picking Tim Walz as a big win.
This is a Jill Stein operation, which means its probably being driven by Putin and Iran. She is looking for a Palestinian running mate. Tells you all you need to know. If any of them really cared about the issue they would have been protesting at the RNC.
Hi Seth, I understand what you are saying but it doesn't seem like a constructive comment for the Hopium community where we focus on doing the joyful hard work to win this election. Thanks!
For what it's worth, I bumped into a fellow activist/pro Kamala friend yesterday. Unlike me this person was around in '68 & while he was actually at the convention, he reminded me how different the dynamic was - the dynamic that contributed to that mess. He doesn't seem as worried. It's a given the protests will happen, but I think the ball is really in the DNC & Chicago's court in terms of how they respond to them. My hope is they're acknowledged in a sensitive way (at least towards those acting in good faith). My friend seemed to think Gaza was "baggage" for Kamala but nothing that she couldn't weather. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!
Then, young American men were being drafted, shipped off to Vietnam, and coming back in body bags. And inside the convention hall, Democratic politicians were supporting the war anyway. The energy in '68 came from people in very real danger of being drafted themselves opposing a party that refused to run an anti-war candidate and a brutal police force that treated them like enemy combatants. Now, we have a humanitarian crisis on the other side of the world with no Americans involved and all our Democratic candidates support a ceasefire ASAP. There's not the same kind of direct US involvement in the crisis nor the same kind of intransigence in the party there was in '68. So let them protest. The party needs to remember that its base wants a different approach to Israel than the one we have had for the last 50 years! But let these protests acknowledge that Kamala has come out strongly critical of Netenyahu and said she will not be silent about the crisis on the ground in Gaza.
Good to know about Harris - the friend I refer to yesterday also had his wife with him. She was angry at Joe about Gaza, asking rhetorically why he hadn't come out harder against Netanyahu. While I was not defending Joe on Gaza I told her I saw his response/Israel policy as largely in line with what "traditional" politicians' stances have been for decades. I hope Harris keeps listening! She's got my vote !!! I know another huge difference is that the '68 convention came after a messy primary.
As an amateur drama queen, I have to say that our primary had a high drama ending, but it certainly wasn't messy. The opposite, actually. I'm proud of the way our President and Democratic Party leadership + rank and file handled this whole thing. It's been fascinating to watch.
Yes, the draft and two anti-war candidates ran in the primary and the anti-war vote was the majority - Eugene McCarthy, then RFK joined (after initially refusing to run). Gene was on the ballot. Also, the Yippie demo, they ran a pig - Pigasus.!! The dem. party nominated a candidate not in line with the [anti War] primary vote. That is not happening now. I opposed Biden stepping down b/c I thought the forces would bypass Kamala and not support her. Our president made sure that did not happen. what we have now with the demos is foreign bad actors pouring $ into making trouble
Thank you for all of your hard work. We have a friend in common, so if I'm ever in DC, besides for an upcoming wedding, or you're in NYC, she said she would introduce us. Dr judy.
I have to admit, North Carolina looked lost for a while there, but the Hopium tortoises once again seem poised to slowly and steadily win the race - yes, I know there’s still a ton of work to do, but that sensation of well-grounded hope is great to come back to…
It also seems likely that as Fall approaches, more people begin to listen. At that point, the choice is inevitable and clear. (Just my opinion).

That's too bad. But still much better than most of what I hear on National Public Radio in the U.S.
Kamala Harris has a you tube channel that carries all her rallys start to finish. Maybe that will be the case for DNC

most state polls including Georgia are within the margin or error. We got to just keep working for each state to GOTV for Democrats and win big.
Just saw the NYT headline! Simon, a couple of us brought this up in our Thurs. night winning the house chat - can we get the DNC to add encouraging early voting to their phonebanking scripts? I want Georgia!!! The disenfranchisement still hasn't been reversed and the people there deserve the right to vote. I hope this shifts.
Let's hope the DNC, the Abrams Machine, Field Team 6, Indivisible and any pro-voting organization dedicated to the cause moves in there ASAP. This is the state that gave of Ossoff and Warnock after all! Come on Georgia!!!
Field team 6 has been on it and still is and can't imagine Stacey isn't.

Agreed, they'll be hitting it hard there

This 💯 - voters need to check their registration status.

Harris will take GA - I can feel it in my bones!

Markedly better thinking and presentation than in 2019. An absolute powerhouse now! Rock out, Kamala!

Simon, strange but I am not seeing the NYT/Siena polls for Arizona and North Carolina listed on 538. Nor do they seem reflected in 538’s average.
Do you think this is simply a delay?
To my earlier comment about the Georgia poll - any Georgia people here? If so, do you have a sense of what's going on down there? Do you think Harris has started to change the atmosphere there the way she - knock on wood - appears to have elsewhere ? Are young people feeling energized ?

Your lips to god's ears!
If we win NC Trump is toast and will be huge nail in the MAGA coffin.

Georgia has Stacey Abrams returning to push for Harris since end of July. It’s only been 3 weeks but her energy should help change those GA stats!
Hi, I'm really worried about the planned protests next week. I hope it doesn't get ugly
I think the protests will be smaller now that Biden is no longer on the ticket. Everyone should protest: women and children are being killed with weapons marked "MADE IN USA".
But the hostages and initial bloodbath seem to be an afterthought for many.
Same energy for the GOP?
check the number in your directory, you are on the wrong website
