We head into this Election Day with the Trump vibe changing in DC. His grip on the city has loosened a bit in recent weeks. Trump has lost 10-12 points of job approval in just two months, and seen his image as a guy can get stuff done and make the economy grow take a bit hit. Last week the Rs lost a PA Trump +15 state senate seat they had held since the 1890s. Signalgate was epic and undeniable buffoonery at the highest levels. The bloom has come off the Muskian rose. They pulled the Stefanik nomination to help protect a +20 Trump district. The terrible economic news just kept coming. The panic in farm country is growing. People are taking to the streets and the calls just keep coming into Congress. Despite the bluster and the blather Rs know this Trump thing has veered wildly off course. It is clear Trump is doing enormous harm to the country. Just look at these headlines this morning:

I appeared on Kaitlin Collins’ CNN show last night to talk about Trump’s escalating attacks on our universities, our prosperity and our freedoms. You can watch the short clip above. The way Trump has gone after Columbia and now Harvard has been an extraordinary abuse of power, arbitrary, capricious - the kind of authoritarian behavior our Founders built America to counter. As I said last night on CNN Trump is not treating Americas like fellow citizens but as cowering subjects who must now bend the knee. It is just too much. They have gone too far. Trump has once again overplayed a weak political hand and the American people - and even Republicans in Congress - are growing increasingly unhappy about it all.
As a long-time Washington guy I can tell you that we are seeing more assertiveness coming from Republicans for they know this Trump thing is way off the rails. We talked last week about the direct challenges we saw from Republican Senators on his illegal and unconstitutional impounding/stealing of Congressionally appropriated federal funds and the clear illegality and betrayal of Signalgate. This week we getting further challenges on Trump’s dangerous cave to Putin and of his equally dangerous tariffs. While we cannot overstate what is happening here we should not undersell it either. Little cracks become big cracks. Courage can become contagious. And we only need 4 Senators and/or 3 House Members to start breaking from Trump for us to be able to start preventing Trump’s Russian-backed wrecking ball from doing more damage to America and the world.
Look at this data from a new AP-NORC poll. The erosion Trump has seen in recent weeks is extraordinary:
It’s why we need to be on offense now, and keep working as hard as we can. Trump the strong can become Trump the weak, the pathetic, the loser, the betrayer if we keep working it. Winning Wisconsin today and event getting close in Florida will be a big blow to the big blubbery babyman. Please grab a shift in Wisconsin today. For those in Florida thank you for all your hard work too. We all need to be like Senator Booker who has heroically commanded the Senate floor all night, making his case against the dangers of Trump.
It is critical that we remember that we beat/outperformed MAGA in 2018, 2020, 2022, throughout 2023 and in many downballot races in 2024. We did lose the Presidency by a very narrow margin but our track record against MAGA in recent elections has been far better than it feels right now. We have beaten them many times. They are not invincible, and can be beaten. And Trump is making a lot of mistakes, and voters are losing faith in him. It is why we cannot let up.

Here are other things you can to do today to keep us moving forward:
1 - Fight The Trump-Musk Attack On Our Government, Our Privacy And Our Constitutional Order - Encourage your Senators and Representatives to let Facts be be submitted to a candid world in a joint Senate-House Letter to America; to hold their own hearings; to file criminal referrals for Musk and his malicious posse to DOJ/FBI and amicus briefs in the court cases regarding the usurpation of their Constitutional authorities or file suits of their own (House Dems began doing this several weeks ago). Encourage them to hold a daily morning press conference to more aggressively challenge Musk’s ransacking of the USG that is making America less prosperous, less healthy, less safe and far less respected in the world.
2 - Loudly Protest Trump’s Embrace of Russia and Abandonment of NATO and Europe - Let your electeds know you are outraged by traitorous Trump’s selling out of Zelenskyy, abandonment of Europe and embrace of Putin; and that we cannot accept this level of appeasement of someone who is a clear enemy of America and the West, and certainly not an ally. Demand that Trump not let his Saudi meeting w/Putin become our Munich; demand that he not become our Neville Chamberlain; demand that we rejoin our European and NATO allies in support of Zelenskyy and democracy here and everywhere. The country is not with Trump’s embrace of Putin and we must be very loud, very, very loud now. Part II - do all this and demand that Hegseth and Gabbard resign. Hegseth is obvious. He sent war plans on an insecure chat and simply can no longer be trusted. Gabbard for she is in charge of intelligence for the US, and must take responsibility for participating in and not stopping one of the most significant security breaches in US history.
3 - Our Work In The States, The Spring Offensive - I am going to rework this section as so much has happened since we called on our community members to organize in the 17 most vulnerable Republican House seats. Rallies and protests have exploded across the country. The DNC/House Dems/State Parties have kicked off People’s Town Halls in all 50 states. I have come to believe that we should be leaning on our state and local electeds to pursue these organized “condemnations” of the Trump regime and their betrayal of America. Let’s start talking now about what we are going to do on July 4th, a day with all of a sudden much more importance.
