They’ve done studies on the effectiveness of postcards. But also, the effect is greatest when there’s multiple contact points. So someone may respond to a door knocker, but a postcard might remind them again to actually get out and vote. And vice versa.

While this may be true-- and I write postcards daily myself-- a mailed postcard provides no actual voter information to the campaign. Phone banking and canvassing, by contrast, inform the Harris campaign as to which voters are pro-Trump (and thus should be ignored), which voters are undecided (and thus need additional outreach), and which voters are pro-Harris (and thus should be tagged for GOTV efforts and/or recruited as volunteers). There's a reason why the Harris campaign is recruiting volunteers for phone banking and canvassing, but has no organized postcarding effort... and again, I note that as someone who's written a couple thousand postcards so far this year!

Some of us simply have no capacity to phone bank or canvass. That's just how it is for those folks, and I respect that. For the rest of us, though, who are willing and able to get a bit more uncomfortable and give direct voter engagement a try, our reward might just be a Harris victory in November.

Hi Matthew, are you in the district? I'm in her district and getting ready to jump on a phone bank for her. My Canvassing days are behind me, so I do postcards and phonebanking.

Between now and 10 September, I hope the Democratic Party and the Harris-Walz campaign will do whatever is necessary to prevent overly loud, disruptive Gaza/I-P demonstrations at the Convention.

Agreed. It is starting to seem like an oppo campaign specifically aimed at causing chaos for Democrats. I don’t trust that it is sincere any longer.

The whole thing feels way too coordinated and with the sole objective to make liberals (and especially young people and Black people) not vote. When asked for any sort of plan, they don’t have one, just say again and again- don’t vote. It’s taken over leftist TikTok the past few days…

One of the groups that has been posting on social media was funded by Sheldon Adelson, as I discovered yesterday (the first thing I do when I see a post is check the organization on Wikipedia) - #librariantricks. It would not surprise me at all if a fair amount of this activity was being funded/driven by some combo of dark money and bad actors (Russia, China etc.).

"Democrats should do more to put Ohio in play." That’s the proposal in this well-argued article on the DailyKos. Well worth a read!

Our cluster of Ward Chairs is planning a grassroots event on the first day of early voting, Breakfast with Your Law Makers, at a local park. We have invited our corresponding Congressional Delegation and State Senators and Representatives to speak at the celebration. Our goal is to appeal to both consistent voters and hard-to-reach voters to help Get Out the Vote. Our County Democratic Party has ward grants to help fund our activities all year long.

Deciding to whom to donate in this remaining time and with limited resources is indeed a challenge (for me, anyway). If Democrats lose two Senate seats, say good-bye to appointing judges, and probably at least one SCOTUS justice, who are competent, unbiased, and have integrity. Losing WV is a given, so that means we can only afford to lose one, which gives a 50-50 Senate (with VP Walz breaking the tie). Jon Tester in MT is, according to 538, losing. This is why trump held a rally in MT--to punish Tester. I am putting my limited resources into Senator Tester's campaign. I love Simon's uplifting emails and poll analysis! I don't get why there's not more about the dangers of losing the Senate.

The bottom line is - unless we pull a rabbit out of our hat in Fla or Tex, we need Tester to win his race to hold the Senate at 50-50. All the other key Dem races are in pretty good shape. Tester was down 2 points in the Emerson poll last week. His R opponent, Sheehy, has had some embarrassing financial issues with his business lately, so maybe that will help Tester. Also, maybe Tim Walz could help out (if Tester wants to bring him in). Tester has a track record of pulling these close races out - let's hope he can do it one more time!

Mark my words: If Republicans have a Senate majority, they will only confirm a new Supreme Court justice "who respects precedent – that Dobbs is the law of the land."

And that SCOTUS justice will raise her hand and swear to respect precedent. (Until she doesn't. Just like her colleagues.)

Regarding your challenge of who to donate to, my 2 cents is to donate only to candidates who are behind their GOP opponent in fundraising. Tester is WAY ahead of his opponent in funds (https://www.fec.gov/data/elections/senate/MT/2024/). Of course, who could benefit most from, texting, calling, canvassing, etc., is independent of the campaign funds status.

Leon Rubis raises a good point. Sounds like Tester needs more GOTV help (texting, calling, canvassing, etc.) than donations.

Hello Hopium ... Does anyone know of a post carding campaign to help Debbie Mucarsel-Powell's senate race in Florida? My spidey-sense tells me she has a chance to win. (And we may need her seat to hold the Senate.) I've searched far and wide for a way to postcard for her, and have come up empty.
