More Good Inflation News, 38 Days Until Early Voting Begins, Trump Is Unfit and Unwell

Happy Tuesday all, and another happy Tuesday it is! I’ve had some technical issues today so this post will be a little shorter than usual. But let’s get to it:

38 Days Until Early Voting Begins - Yes, it is the dog days of summer and back to school starts for many of us any day. Yes, we are in the midst of one of the most remarkable, joyous runs for Democrats in decades. Yes, we are right to be relieved and excited, but, and this is a big but, our Convention is next week. The next debate is September 10th. Early voting then begins on Friday, September 20th. In other words, friends, hit the beach this week, drink your margarita, binge watch House of Dragon, check the new school bus route but it is game time now and we have an election to go win, together.

It’s time now to start making your final plans for how you close out the election. Make your final decisions on where you are going to put your money and volunteer time. If you are traveling to a battleground state or district make get your housing sorted out and let the campaign know you are coming. Make your plan on how you are going to Vote on Day 1, and encourage everyone you know across the country to join you.

An idea our friends at Network NOVA have come up that I think worth replicating - they are hosting Vote on Day 1 parties across Virginia on September 20th, bringing attention to the early vote. These events will signal that this year we will be approaching voting joyfully, hopefully, all as a powerful rebuke to those working to strip our rights and freedoms from us. Mariachi bands? High school marching bands? New Orleans style marching bands? What other ways can we celebrate voting this fall?

I’ve offered some recommendations for where you can put your home stretch time and money, though there are many other good ways too. I’ll be upping the tempo of events and discussions to bring the latest and best intel to you in the closing days. We enter this home stretch in far better shape than the Republicans. Harris now leads by 3 in national polling, a full six points better than where Biden was a few weeks ago:

We lead in many of the battleground states, and recent polling even has us tied in GA and NC. We’ve seen an historic surge of money and volunteers, making us far more muscular and powerful, and guaranteeing that we will have the best early vote/GOTV operation we’ve ever had. Our ticket is electric and dynamic, filling stadiums, working their asses off and bringing the joy everyday. Our Senate polling remains encouraging. Our House candidates have also seen a surge in money and volunteers, and are in far stronger positions today.

Trump, on the other hand, is struggling and appears to have melted down. His VP pick was disastrous. He is clearly unwell and they’ve taken him off the trail. His agenda is extreme and dangerous, and voters know it. He faces unprecedented opposition from inside his own party. This week the orange rapist, fraudster, traitor, felon has been flying in Jeffrey Epstein’s plane - I mean, just OMG - what a shitshow of a campaign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While you make your plans recognize that the voter contact work we are doing right now really really matters. People here in the Hopium community keep reporting remarkable results when canvassing, phonebanking and texting. Think of it this way. You are an average voter. This new Harris-Walz thing seems exciting, interesting. Then you get a call or someone knocks on your door. Wow they are exciting, interesting and hustling and want me to be a part of it. Reaching people right now really matters so whatever you are going to do in this home stretch make time to do voter contact work right now, when things are hot and fiery. Join our Thursday night Winning The House series. Make calls for Harris-Walz. Volunteer for a local race. It all matters. It all adds up. For working hard is how we have been winning in elections all across the country these past few years and how we will win this November. We are just going to outwork them for we want it far more than they do.

As we look to close strong, we keep getting good news. America just had a great Olympics. Ukraine is making impressive gains in Russia. Flows to the border are way down. Crime and murder rates have plummeted. Inflation fell last month and has been at the Fed’s 2% target over the past six. We got more really good economic news today. Small businesses are more optimistic than they’ve been in two years. New inflation numbers came in lower than expected, making it far more likely we will interest rate cuts in September. These inflation numbers are a reminder that the Biden-Harris Administration have beaten inflation and achieved a soft landing, something we need to be loud and proud about in the home stretch.

As I’ve been writing here for some time, I don’t think Americans are as down on the economy as many say. If people were down, really down, I don’t think we would have been winning so many elections across the country these last two years. Measures of life, job and income satisfaction have been running near or at all time highs (here, here). Voters in the battleground states think things are better where they are:

We also learned this weekend that in at least one poll VP Harris is beating Trump on the economy, something that I’ve believed if we could achieve would be devastating for Trump and the Republicans this year. We have to be careful now, and not talk down the economy. We are the optimists, the people who make things better. And we are better off today. The economy is historically strong. Inflation has been defeated. Better days are ahead. We want people to not just get by, but get ahead for with Democrats, things get better my friends!

So heads down, keep working hard, and let’s go win this thing together!
