PM Hopium - New Trump's Terrible 100 Days Discussion with Lincoln Square Media (Video), Senate Tariff Vote At 530pm ET Tonight - Make Your Calls Everyone!

Last Call For Our Paid Subscriber Event Tonight at 7pm ET/Welcome New Subscribers!

Afternoon all. Three things:

Trump’s 100 Days Of Failure, Lawlessness, Buffoonery and Betrayal With Lincoln Square Media - I just finished up a spirited live discussion of these terrible 100 days with our friends at Lincoln Square Media. The video and rough transcript are above, and here is how they described it to their followers:

We’ve had 100 days of Trump (again.) And apparently, the majority of Americans have had enough, as poll after poll shows. Lincoln Square’s Lisa Senecal and Susan J. Demas and Simon Rosenberg who writes the Hopium Chronicles on Substack break down the numbers for us, especially on the economy. As Trump stumbles, don't miss this inspiring discussion about how we can continue to build our pro-democracy community.

Here’s my Hopium post from this morning if you haven’t gotten to it yet. It drove our discussion today so hope you can get to it when you have the time. A huge thank you to Lisa and Susan for having me on today!

Senate Tariff Vote Is Scheduled For Shortly After 530pm Tonight - The vote is happening in an hour or so - make your calls! Here’s what I wrote this morning about the current state of play:

Call your Senators, particularly Republican Senators, and urge them to vote for the Wyden-Paul-Kaine resolution that will roll back these terrible tariffs - it is coming up for a vote tonight! If you live in Alaska, Kentucky or Maine it is critical that you call Senators Collins, Murkowski, McConnell and Paul and urge them to hold the line against these tariffs. These 4 voted with the Dems last month to roll back the Canadian tariffs and if we get them again we can, after today’s terrible GDP report, offer a serious rebuke to the President on his disastrous economic course.

And note that Politico is now reporting that Speaker Johnson has cracked the door open to House action on the tariffs:

Speaker Mike Johnson said Wednesday that Congress could intervene to curtail President Donald Trump’s global tariff regime — but only, he said, if there’s an “imbalance” in the relative powers of the executive and legislative branches.

“I think the executive has a broad array of authority that’s been recognized over the years” related to trade, Johnson said at an Axios event. “If it gets close to where the imbalance is there, then we would step in.”

Hopium Paid Subscriber Gathering Tonight at 7pm ET - Our regular (almost every week) gathering of our paid subscribers is tonight at 7pm ET. Paid subscribers can register here.

If you can’t make it live tonight my talk will be recorded and shared in tomorrow’s Hopium post. If you want to join and are not yet a paid subscriber sign up here or below.

Keep working hard all. As I said in my talk with Lisa and Susan today, we are making real progress; are enlarging the circle of defiance; he is weaker and we are stronger; but man oh man do we have a lot of work to do - Simon
