Hi Hopium Defenders of Democracy,

Defend Public Health has launched a response to RFK Jr and his ridiculous claim that scientists etc. from all over the country support him. NO WE DON'T. We need your help. Please take a look at Operation Postcard, at https://www.defendpublichealth.org/campaign/help-prove-rfk-jr-wrong Sending a postcard is easy and if you have groups you can get involved too, that is great. THANK YOU. The best cure for despair is action!

why dont the dems ask vought to do his job and produce a budget for the US since they have had since jan 20th to produce it? that is his job no?? ask him why cant he prepare a timely budget to run the government and only do CR??? just dont get it. why dont they do a new budget? not that i care because the CR is the old biden budget which i just assume is better for us at this point. this is not a corner bodega we are talking about. this is the largest economy on earth. do all other countries produce timely budgets, negotiate and pass them and we are the outlier?? it's embarassing, banana republic style of governance. maybe i am just an old fuddy duddy who remembers when we had budgets and they were passed.

Honestly I don't think you can deal reasonably with someone like Vought. The only way to deal with him is to, when we take back the House, drag him in over and over to testify under subpoena. Don't let him have a minute's peace. Make his life suck.

Yes exactly. I had the same thought back several months ago. Make him dread work like he wants government employees to feel.

Simon, thanks for another great interview! Glad you gave us the facts on NJ; I'm seeing those bad polls cited a lot.

If I'm ever in the same room with Jim Comey, I'm going to punch him in the nose. Along with Merrick Garland, I blame him for the mess we're all in. That said, he of course doesn't deserve what Trump's doing to him. Luckily, Trump has incompetent, inexperienced lawyers and Comey has retained Patrick Fitzgerald, who is going to wipe the floor up with whatever poor DOJ hack gets assigned this case. Kenneth Cheseboro just got disbarred. It may take time, but justice is coming for everyone who aids and abets this corrupt administration.

I called Congressman Raskin and Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen to urge them to stand strong in this budget battle. I also said that any farm bail-out should include reinstating SNAP benefits and USAid, both of which help farmers. A bail-out is a one-time band-aid, but reinstating those programs will help farmers on an ongoing basis. I'm writing postcards to Virginia voters today.

I too have very negative emotions about what Comey did in 2016. This is just a show indictment, the evidence is clearly lacking since the former DA resigned over lack of evidence. Hopefully it will soon be dismissed by summary judgment.

You never know, perhaps this will be the case where Bondi gets challenged on her law license. For every illegal, unjust action we have to create backlash, until these morons finally get the message through their thick by mushy skulls: F*ckery is a losing battle. Every misstep drives down his polls and puts his minions at professional and criminal risk.

Allison Gill also has a daily "news with swearing" podcast called "Daily Beans"M-F which I often listen too over the last 18 months She also collaborates with others on 5 more shows a week. And she has done some deep dives and breakthrough investigative journalism in the legal ecosphere, with certain FOIA requests and other significant evidence producing tidbits.

She may be the one person out there that works as hard as Simon in terms of producing incredible content, and she has significantly risen her game throughout Trump 2.0. Really looking forward to today's interview.

We need to support the retention election of THREE Democratic Supreme Court Justices in PA on 11/4. They eliminated R gerrymandering and saved reproductive freedom, and now have fascist targets on their backs. Defend Our Courts is the place to contribute to fight off huge corrupt money aligned against them. This is at least as important as the WI Supreme Court election and MUST be won!

We are building and growing in Trenton. Our postcarding event went well this week, we're up to 400 neighbor to neighbor postcards written to voters in our own neighborhood. When we hit and exceed our goal by the beginning of next month, we're going to send a handwritten postcard encouraging to vote Democrat to at least one third of Democratic voting families in my ward in Trenton. This is the first time I'm aware of this kind of outreach being done here in at least 15 years. Tomorrow, we're knocking doors. Trenton's first volunteer canvass effort in decades continues this weekend. We are all in to win!

Thx for the fulsome explanation on the NJ Governor’s race. I will share with my sphere of influence. The disgusting doxxing of Sherrill should not land well here. I don’t watch network or cable news but I hope she gets a very strong ad out on this ASAP. Tragically a few years back a NJ-based US district court judge’s family was shot and her 20-year old son killed. Chilling.

We’re a rough and tumble state, so Sherrill throwing a hard punch should not offend.

Stephen Miller is of course appalling every day, pretty much 24/7. It is particularly galling to me, as a lay leader of a synagogue, that he purports to be Jewish but so much of what he does and says flies directly in the face of the most basic Jewish (and Christian) tenets. Let's just take, for example, Deuteronomy 27:19 which says “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!” Need I say more?

But he takes it to yet another level in the tweet shown above, where he continues his litany of lies regarding his authoritarian administration. Why is this tweet so galling? It was tweeted on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, the beginning of the Jewish High Holidays, during the period known as the Days of Awe. Not only does he apparently not observe these most elevated Jewish holidays, when we are supposed to examine our own behavior and repent, he profanes the day itself with abusive lies.

There is a Yiddush word - shanda - which refers to something which is scandalously shameful. Stephen Miller is a shanda.

Self-report.

I called the offices of my members of Congress about the new round of tariffs, particularly the 100% tax on pharmaceuticals. I asked that my members not only speak out about the insane tariffs, but also about the insane would-be king who raised them.

I heard back from the Outreach Assistant for Rep. Larsen. She's preparing a report to present to Rep. Larsen and staff on the feedback we gave her on his communication.

I also heard back from the President of WAWU-UAW, which represents student workers at Western Washington University. This is the largest organizer of students on campus. I contacted her about the No Kings rally on October 18. She assured me that she would let her members know about the action at their first general membership meeting of the term.

BTW, the reason I'm able to contact the union President this way is because I built up political capital when I supported the last two strikes, walking the picket line with them and contacting administration and local political leaders about their issues. It helps that I was involved in union politics when I was a teacher and know what it's like to be a leader in a strike. Political capital is important.

Report and questions:

Contacted reps yesterday and today. In brief, I spoke about Simon’s big four, plus calling attention to elected Republicans complicity in Trumps destruction of our democracy were my subjects. Also, I called on them to speak openly about Trumps physical and political decline and take advantage of it.

Maybe this isn’t the right forum for these questions and if that’s the case, I’m very willing to look elsewhere for information.

But I’m hoping at some point someone can explain me the interrelationship of the DNC, DCCC, DSCC, DLCC, ASDC, etc. Does the DNC help fund the others? Does DNC direct activities of the others. Do they collaborate on strategy? How about state parties? I understand that the DNC under Ken Martin is committed to increasing funding of state parties, but how independent - or not - are they?

While I’ve been a Democrat/Independent all my life, I have to confess that I’ve really never paid much attention to the Democratic Party structure.

And a further question is the relationship between the various “D” committees, and the many many groups and organizations like Indivisible, The States Project, 50501, and so many others. Again, I have no desire to engage in criticizing or airing “dirty laundry”. But it’s my nature to want to know how things work. And in this fraught time, it seems to me especially important that there’s at least communication if not collaboration between all these groups/committees, etc.
