One more idea: The Hopium community could help the Biden campaign increase its list of small donors. In addition to donating ourselves, we can urge all the young people we know to contribute $25. It would also give them a sense of personal investment.
I have an idea which I believe can facilitate new registrants and turnout. I have offered my idea to NC (my Home state) Democrats, but they probably do not see the merits thereof. However, everyone that I've spoken with about it, including the members at Daily Kos, a college professor, and quite a few others thinks it's a great idea, as I do. So I'd like to share it with you in the hope that you shall agree and hopefully find a way to implement it. Here it is:
I call it "Adopt a Voter". Many of us know individuals, be it a friend, family member or acquaintance who are not enthusiastic (or find it difficult to overcome the challenges) about voting for whatever reason. The idea is to encourage each Democratic voter to identify at least one such person (who is likely to support Dems) and undertake to do what it takes to get that person to vote - from obtaining requisite documentation, e.g. acceptable ID, to taking along the person to the polling station if necessary.
It might be that expenses may be involved. e,g, fees for ID docs., but a fund can be established to assist in defraying such expenses.
Advantages: - potential voter easily identified and reached- increased pool of registered Dems- if this can succeed, can reduce demands of door to door campaigning- may reduce need for advertising or certain types of advertising
I kindly ask that you send me a quick note in acknowledgement of receipt hereof and if possible, your opinion on this, in due course.
t's a very good idea! It's a form of deep-canvassing, which is known to achieve what you want and in a lasting way- identifying potential voters and persuading them by listening, acknowledging and engaging.
fyi There are groups around the country, like ours- Swing Blue Alliance, formerly Swing Left Boston -that are dedicated to partnering with out-of-state local Dem groups in NC, AZ, WI, etc.
The NC Dem Party is newly energized and they need people like you. The Mecklenburg County Dem Party is also very energized and active. Please reach out to them. Best wishes
Just wanted you to know your information above inspired me to search out Mecklenburg County Dem Party. I donated to their “ 40,000 Registered Voters project” and I just heard this week donations to this group reached $1,000,000.00 !!!💃🏻 What a success! If you hadn’t pointed them out here on HC I would not have known about them. Another example of Hopium community being able work together and be effective in our choices for donations.
That has been the number one reason I joined HC and it has provided that and so much more!!! Thank you🙏🏻
Clive- I have personally been working on this since 2018! It’s been effective ( twisting affable grandkids arms easiest)
Yo do it as a group effort IMHO a great idea 💡 If HC community members convinced just one person that is 50k more voters supporting democracy. 🙌🏻 This would be an effective addition!!!
Yup, this is an example of the “footprint” idea David Pepper has talked about. Think of one’s “footprint,” i.e., who’s in one’s life, e.g., family, neighborhood, social network, whatever and consider the options to, as Simon reminds us, “do more and worry less.” Getting one person at a time to vote is what we must do to win. There are far more of us than “Them.”
Okay, I'm in. I just gave a hundy to each of the funds that Simon has identified in this post. And I just signed up for Tuesday's Biden-Harris Organizing Strategy Session.
I am extremely concern about the attacks on the justice system by a major political party. It is right out of the authoritarian playbook. How much do you think we should comment on that? Also want to share a link to cartoons on daily kos. They have one showing a dumpster fire which is so apropos.
I tried to find a place on your site where I could donate to all 12 candidates that you have suggested. Could only see donating to each of them individually. Can you make it easy with just one click?
Hi Simon - writing from Colorado, metro Denver in CD4 where carpet bagger Lauren Boebert moved. She won the R primary. The D candidate is Trisha Calvarese. She could beat Lauren but will need some extra $$ to do this. Can she be added the Winning the House List? Thanks!
I just saw James Carville on MSNBC talking about how Kamala isn’t doing enough. I realize that he is chicken little all the time, but I want to know why he is making her look bad and incompetent at running her campaign. Don’t you think he can Do More, Worry Less? He got me all tied up in knots. I know I shouldn’t worry but I spent all day phone banking and writing letters. I’m doing all I can. What do you think.

Sorry, the last bit "I kindly ask......." should have been edited out as I had sent this note to another group
Absolutely.

donated again today! so inspiring that Hopium Chronicles enables us to make a difference !
I appreciate this commentary so that I am able to donate to races where the small amount I have available will go to the right candidates.
Okay, I'm in. I just gave a hundy to each of the funds that Simon has identified in this post. And I just signed up for Tuesday's Biden-Harris Organizing Strategy Session.
Let's do this, gang!
Simon, I suggest you have one site where we can donate and where we could choose the campaigns we want to support. Thank you.
That flag video is powerful!

Hi Simon. How do I “update” my profile? Or how do I establish a profile. Sorry to bother you.
