Friends,
As regular Hopium readers know we are big advocates of our Congressional leaders doing more to challenge the Trump-Musk illegal and unconstitutional attack on the government of the United States of America.
So I was pleased to sit down earlier today with one of our top leaders challenging Trump and Musk, Congressman Don Beyer. Congressman Beyer represents North Virginia, home to many government workers and contractors. He has been a vocal and effective champion these past few months and I am honored he gave us some time to update us on his vital efforts. A recording of our discussion is above, as is a transcript for those who would rather read than watch or listen.
Note that in our discussion we learned that the House Dems have filed amicus briefs now in 150 federal court cases; I was able to introduce my idea of A Letter to America to the Congressman; and the two of us discussed our great concern about the ongoing Trump-Musk attack on our national scientific, academic and research communities, a topic I discussed on CNN last night, and a strategy that has nothing to do with making our government more efficient.
My favorite part of the interview comes at the end when Congressman Beyer reminds us that the state motto of Virginia is “Sic semper tyrannis” - or “tyrants always fall.”
As I wrote this morning there has been a vibe shift in DC these last few weeks. Today we saw more dangerous GOP dysfunction and the Democrats starting to find a higher gear - the Speaker got rolled by his own Members today on a floor vote and in spite sent the House home for the rest of the week; we learned that the President’s National Security Advisor has not only been using Signal to run his shop but gmail (!!!!!!!!) too; and Senator Cory Booker has become an inspiration to the whole nation these past 24 hours.
Good luck in the elections tonight everyone. For those wanting to talk about this discussion with Rep. Beyer use our chat below. For those who want to talk about the Florida and Wisconsin elections head back to this morning’s chat and let’s keep it there for tonight……
Enjoy my conversation with Rep. Beyer and keep working hard all - Simon
