New Biden Democracy Ad - Let's Watch and Amplify Through Our Networks
The Campaign Has Begun Everyone. Let's Do Our Part And Help Biden Spread His Message
The Biden Campaign Drops A New Ad. Let’s Watch, Share and Amplify - New, from the Biden-Harris campaign:
On Saturday, January 6, Team Biden-Harris will launch its first ad of 2024, highlighting the existential threat our country’s democracy faces from the MAGA extremism that now defines the Republican Party and showcasing President Biden’s commitment to strengthening and fighting for our democratic institutions and free and fair elections.
The 60-second TV spot, “Cause,” narrated by President Biden, issues a stark reminder of Donald Trump and MAGA extremists’ prior and ongoing efforts to erode American democracy and excuse – and even promote – political violence. It also emphasizes President Biden’s steadfast dedication to ensuring free and fair elections and the right of all Americans to have their votes counted.
The week-long, half a million-dollar ad flight will run on national television news and on local evening news in key TV markets in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. On digital platforms, Team Biden-Harris will run a series of tailored 15- and 6-second ads on high-reach platforms including YouTube, Instagram, and Connected TV.
“Led by Donald Trump, MAGA Republicans are running on an extreme platform of undermining the will of the American people who vote in free and fair elections, weaponizing the government against their political opponents, and parroting the rhetoric of dictators in service of forcing their extreme, unpopular agenda,” said Biden-Harris 2024 Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. “Over the last three years, MAGA Republicans haven’t shied away from the Big Lie – they’ve doubled down. This ad serves as a very real reminder that this election could very well determine the very fate of American democracy.”
Here’s the ad, from YouTube, below. Please watch and share through your networks. Let’s be loud and proud here people, happy info warriors, and get this thing seen by as many people as possible. It’s one way we can all help and be in this campaign regardless of where we live. Loud and proud!
Also note that the President is giving a major campaign - not official - speech tomorrow in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. I assume it will be able to be seen live for those who want to watch it. I don’t have that info at this time but it should be widely available in the morning tomorrow. That it is a campaign speech is important. The President can be much freer with his words in a campaign setting than he can be in an official setting, where more partisan language and arguments are in theory not allowed. So this speech will be an early step in the development of the campaign narrative and language, the words and arguments we will be using to reach voters together this year. So it’s an important speech, something we will be discussing here together in the coming days.
Our message is clear and simple. We are running a campaign like the fate of our democracy depends on it. Because it does.
- Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden-Harris Campaign Manager
2023 was a very good year for Democrats. Let’s make 2024 even better - It’s been a remarkable few weeks for our core 2024 narrative:
Joe Biden is a good President. The country is better off. The Democratic Party is strong and winning elections across the US. And they have Trump.
Last week MSNBC digital featured my op-ed, Biden’s 2024 chances are much stronger than people realize, which advanced our narrative. President Biden talked about one of my 2024 Hopium posts at a DNC fundraiser right before Christmas. I took our big, optimistic argument into MSNBC interviews with Lawrence O’Donnell, Willie Geist on Morning Joe, and with Alex Witt. Here’s my Morning Joe segment from last week:
My insights into the 2024 election have also been featured in recent weeks in articles in NBC News, NYTimes, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Jennifer Rubin’s Washington Post column, Politico, Politico again, USA Today, USA Today again, Yahoo News, Vanity Fair, New Republic, Puck, Newsweek, The Hill, The Hill again, Vox, National Journal and the Washington Examiner.
Growth and Expansion in 2024 - Please Volunteer, Donate, Promote! - The 2023 elections are behind us, and 2024 has officially begun! We kick off 2024 with a really important Florida House special election in just two weeks. Please sign up for a volunteer shift or donate today, and thanks to all of you who have already taken an action - I know many of you are already hard at work.
Here are the “growth and expansion” projects and campaigns I’m recommending right now:
Tom Keen FL HD-35 - Jan 16th Special Election - we need to start 2024 with a win in this winnable pick up opportunity in one of the most important states in the county
Tom Suozzi NY-3 - Feb 13th Special Election for Santos Congressional seat - know many are already hard at work here - thank you!
North Carolina Democratic Party - Ongoing, top 2024 battleground Presidential pickup opportunity. Watch our interview with dynamic NC Chair Anderson Clayton - well worth your time

The Monthly Jobs Report Will Be Released Tomorrow - Big econ data day tomorrow. If you want to prep, here is some of our recent econ work here at Hopium, and my favorite graph:
Jessica Valenti on The Texas Abortion Ruling - “Of Course They Want Us Dead” Jessica Valenti, fellow Substacker, posted a must read take on the 5th Circuit ruling that doctors are not required to provide life saving care to pregnant women. Here’s an excerpt:
How many more ways can they make it clear that they want us dead? And I mean that literally. As I wrote in 2022, it’s not just that Republican lawmakers and the anti-abortion movement see women dying as an unfortunate but acceptable consequence of making abortion illegal. To them, the most noble thing a pregnant woman can do is die so that a fetus can live.
There’s a reason that anti-choice groups have spent the last year and a half valorizing pregnant women who decline cancer treatment or other medical care. In part, they’re spreading these stories because they know maternal death rates are rising in the wake of Roe’s demise—they want to turn horror stories into martyrdom success stories. They need to make our deaths more palatable.
But this goes beyond political strategy: To them, women dying in pregnancy isn’t collateral damage—it’s just our job. If we were good mothers, we’d give up anything for our fetus, including our lives. Those who don’t fulfill that role deserve disdain and punishment. Think back to that 5th Circuit ruling, which said a law meant to protect a person’s life in an emergency situation “does not provide an unqualified right for the pregnant mother to abort her child.”
An unqualified right. In other words: How dare we expect to live.
So you can imagine my exhaustion at the way Republicans have reacted to Kate Cox’s story, and the dozens of other nightmare experiences women have gone public with since Dobbs. These lawmakers pivot again and again, feigning as if this suffering is accidental or unexpected. Pretending as if women’s lives being endangered is the result of post-Roe growing paints, or not having not sufficiently ‘tweaked’ their legislation.
Republicans had 50 years to plan for this moment—of course they knew women would suffer and die. Our deaths were built into their plan in the same way polls and public opinion were. It’s bad enough that they see as disposable; lying about it just adds insult to injury.
Let’s be real. Yesterday’s ruling is part of a much broader plan to normalize women’s deaths, and to get voters used to the idea of divorcing abortion from healthcare. I wrote about this in The New York Times a few months ago—how the anti-abortion movement is redefining legal and medical terms to make it seem as if abortion is never necessary to save someone’s life or protect their health. As Rewire’s Jessica Mason Pieklo pointed out on Twitter, this decision is in service of that goal. The ruling, she writes, “effectively says abortion is always ‘elective’ and never required.”
When you don’t care if women die, that’s almost true.
2024 is finally here, and we have a lot of work to do. Excited and proud to be in this fight with all of you - Simon
Simon, details and perceptions count. There's a big problem with this ad. It's Biden's delivery of the 1st sentence and the 1st half of the second. He's rushing and slightly slurring his words. It gives support to the propaganda that he's too old and weak for the job. His delivery is fine after that, but the first impression has already been made. Please talk to someone about re-recording the opening. Also, can they can get rid of the word "preservation"? Sounds elitist. It actually weakens the sentence, aside from not resonating with the average person, who will be the ones deciding this election.
Well I for one am so impressed with this new Biden video. It touched me to the deepest core. I thought it was delivered beautifully, in a sincere and well thought out approach. I don’t care about the delivery being a bit quick, words running together. I care about how I reacted to it. Makes me think about how T stands up in front of crowds and rambles, slurs, mispronounces words and his thought completely negative and disoriented. I can’t watch him talk anymore. Makes me ill. Thanks for sharing this Simon, and thanks for all you are doing to help motivate and educate our side. I’m scared to death about the possibility of T getting in again, boggles my mind how people can be convinced of untruths when you tell them the same lie over and over. Amazing how truth is overlooked, and brainwashing happens, despite the realities of footage, documents, trials, etc. You’re right, we have a lot of work to do. But being worried about a few sentences and how they are delivered in a well written ad isn’t my greatest fear.
