Fresh from hosting the People’s State Of The Union last night with Joy Reid, Meidas Touch, and MoveOn, our friend Katie Phang dropped by this morning for a lively discussion about the state of our union. As usual Katie speaks bluntly, thoughtfully, and passionately about this moment; about our opportunities and challenges; about the Trump regime’s historic lawlessness, and the ongoing outrage of the Epstein coverup; about the encouraging growth of independent media; and about the need to keep fighting.
I also got to share some early takes on what happened last night. To me the most important thing that happened was not the bluster and the bullshit in the House chamber - it was the inspiring speeches given by Governor Spanberger and Senator Padilla, who provided us with a powerful rhetorical path forward, one that I think can work well for our candidates all across the country this year.

As I told Katie at the end of our discussion I think we are stronger today as a movement and Trump is weaker. While we still have a long way to go we should be proud of the progress we’ve made together, and use this sense of accomplishment and progress to fuel us in the important battles ahead.
