Harris-Walz Campaign Keeps Barnstorming The Battlegrounds, The US Economy Is "The Envy Of The World," Trump Is Unfit, Unwell and Keeps Unraveling

New - Hopium Launches Phonebanks for Harris-Walz And Our House Candidates

Happy Sunday all. 16 more days of voting left! Folks are starting to vote in very large numbers, and we have to keep working it peeps. We have done so much together these last 20 months since Hopium launched, but our most important work is the work we are going to do, together, in these next 16 days.

Let’s start today by wishing Happy Birthday to Vice President Harris who is just bringing it everyday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My view of the race has not changed since I released my big video presentation on the election Thursday (with special guests Tom Bonier and Ruben Gallego). You can also catch me (above) talking about the race with Christiane Amanpour for her weekly domestic and international CNN program which aired yesterday.

The bottom line - with 16 days to go I would much rather be us than them.

My latest 2024 Election toplines:

  • The Vice President has a 2-3-4 point lead in the national popular vote, is closer to 270 in the battlegrounds and has far better favs/unfavs than Trump. She is better liked and more likable and that matters as people make up their mind in the closing days.

  • Our financial and ground advantages means more ads and direct voter contacts in the final days, making it far more likely we move a close election towards us than they move it towards them. The early vote is running very strong for us in MI, NE and WI, and is a dogfight in the remaining battlegrounds (more on that tomorrow). We are winning the election my friends, but have not won it yet. There is work to do

  • Since Dobbs it has been the Democratic Party who has been overperforming public polls, and Rs/Trump who have been underperforming. Perhaps this election will be like 2020, but it is in my view far more likely to be like these post-Dobbs elections

  • The GOP underperformance in battleground Senate and Gov races (esp. Lake and Robinson) remains a problem for Trump and Republicans more broadly, as does the unprecedented efforts by Republicans and former Republicans to persuade Republicans to vote for Harris. Liz Cheney joins the VP on the trail again this week

  • Abortion ballot initiatives could give us an extra boost in a few key places

  • Be aware of the magnitude of the 2024 red wave effort. It has far bigger than 2022 and includes new actors like Polymarket and Elon. They are working hard to create the impression that the election is slipping away from us when it isn’t. In the past few days they launched a major effort to drive down the national polling averages, which has moved things a bit. A reminder - they would only be flooding the zone with their polls if they didn’t think they were winning the election

  • Our candidate isn’t unraveling on camera every day, and ducking challenging interviews and debates. Our candidate isn’t a rapist, fraudster, traitor and 34 times felon, the oldest person to be the nominee of an American political party and the most dangerous political leader in all of our history. Our candidate, the Vice President of the United States of America, is strong, winning, optimistic, committed to opportunity and freedom, is for the people and is working unbelievably hard to win this election for all of us.

The Washington Post has a battleground state polling average that makes a significant effort to exclude the right-aligned polls. It shows Harris in a much stronger position than some of the other forecasters and aggregators. I’ll take this map for I still believe we are going to win AZ and NC.

The bottom line my friends is all that polling can tell us now is that the election is really close, within margin of error everywhere. It is close now and will be close on Election Day. I will keep reporting on what I see but all that matters now is that we put our heads down and go out win this thing, together, for our democracy, our freedoms and our future!

Hopium Closing Strong Phonebanks For Harris-Walz and House Candidates - Our Winning The House Thursdays wrapped up this past week with our biggest night yet. We completed over 110,000 postcards in the last few months for our 15 candidates, and made hundreds of thousands of dials. We heard from candidates and had fun talking politics. This was a very successful project, and I want to thank the many volunteers who made it possible and the hundreds of you who showed up each week and went to work.

As our postcarding efforts have come to an end, we are now going to move on to phonebanking for our remaining House candidates and Harris-Walz in the battleground states. Each night I will be doing a brief overview of the days’ news and hope to have a few friends of Hopium join us too. When you join us you can choose between calling for the House or calling for Harris-Walz. I will have a bit more detail on this tomorrow. Let’s close strong together and make these new phonebanking nights fun, raucous and productive!!!!!

In Montana, New Questions About Sheehy Roil The Race - From the NYT:

A former SEAL colleague, Dave Madden, who had what he described as a close relationship with Mr. Sheehy before they deployed to Afghanistan, said that Mr. Sheehy never mentioned a gunshot wound to him, and almost certainly would have done so in a conversation they had during their deployment if he had indeed been wounded.

On the issue of the later injury in Montana, Kim Peach, a park ranger who spoke with Mr. Sheehy that day at the hospital, said Mr. Sheehy personally told him that he had accidentally shot himself in the arm, and handed over a revolver with a spent round.

“I am 100 percent sure he shot himself that day,” Mr. Peach said in an interview.

The accounts provide additional evidence on an issue of truthfulness that has dogged the Sheehy campaign, after The Washington Post first reported about the injury in Montana and the various accounts that Mr. Sheehy has provided, one of which he has admitted was a lie.

The Economist: The US Economy Is “The Envy Of The World” - Here’s The Economist’s cover story this week:

caption...

It is another reminder of just how strong the economy has been under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. It is “the envy of the world” -

254,000 jobs were added in September, blowing past expectations. Revisions from the previous two months added another 72,000 jobs, so 326,000 new jobs in total, and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.1%. As a nation we should be very proud of how we came through the challenges of the economic carnage Trump left us, as today the American economy is without question the strongest advanced economy in the world, and one of the strongest in my lifetime.

I know we talk a lot about inflation, but I think we continue to overlook the significance of having such a low unemployment rate for so long. Here is how FDR talked about the dangers of unemployment (from his DC based Memorial). It is a sentiment I think about literally every day:

“No country, however rich, can afford the waste of its human resources. Demoralization caused by vast unemployment is our greatest extravagance. Morally, it is the greatest menace to our social order.”

Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris we’ve had the longest period of low unemployment in a peacetime American economy since WWII and the best job market since the 1960s. The stock market is breaking records. GDP growth has been 3% over 3 years. We have the lowest uninsured rate in American history. The rate of formation of new businesses is at an all time high. Wage growth has been running ahead of inflation for some time now. The battle against inflation has been won. Gas prices have been down. The deficit is lower. Crime is down. Drug overdoses are down. Obesity is down. The flows to the border today are lower than at the end of Trump’s Presidency. We passed the first bi-partisan gun safety bill in 30 years. Domestic oil, gas, renewable production are higher than they’ve ever been and we are more energy independent today than we’ve been in decades. The three big Biden-Harris investment bills will be creating jobs and opportunities for American workers for decades to come, while accelerating the energy transition needed to keep the planet from warming.

Loud and proud people, loud and proud!
