Joe Biden Is A Successful President, Labour's Big Win, With Democrats Things Get Better (video)

49m of 51m Jobs Created Since 1989 Have Come Under Democratic Presidents
442

Happy Friday all. We got another strong, steady jobs report this morning, and exciting news from the UK. Let’s get to it:

Job Growth In June Exceeded Expectations Again - The June jobs report is out this morning and it’s another good one: 206,000 jobs created, unemployment rate now at 4.1%. The goal of our policy now is to slow the economy, get inflation down without tipping into recession. With inflation zero last month and this sturdy report we are getting closer to where we want the economy to be - growing but with slightly lower inflation. From the Washington Post this am:

“The labor market is still strong but not quite as strong as it was a year ago,” said Gus Faucher, chief economist at PNC. “If we see a bit slower job growth, a little bit of cooling competition for workers, slightly less wage growth, that should help get inflation back to the Fed’s 2 percent target.”

Here’s our updated monthly jobs tracker:

  • 33.8m jobs = 16 years Clinton, Obama

  • 15.7m jobs = 40 months of Biden

  • 1.9m jobs = 16 years of Bush, Bush, Trump

Biden's 15.7m jobs are 8 times as many jobs as were created in the 16 years of the last 3 Republican Presidencies, combined.  Since 1989 and the end of the Cold War, the US has seen 51 million new jobs created. 49.5 million of those 51.4 million jobs - 96% - have been created under Democratic Presidents. Just 2 million jobs - 4% - have been created under Republicans.

I did a in-depth look at the economic success of the Biden Administration, and the damage Trump’s economic agenda would do in this recent post, The Economic Madness of Donald. In it I remind everyone how much better things are under Joe Biden:

In the last few weeks we’ve gotten repeated confirmation of the success of the Biden Presidency - inflation was *zero* last month and prices of many goods are failing, crime and murder rates are way down, gas prices are down, the flow to the border is down. We’ve had the strongest economic recovery of any advanced economy in the world, the best job market since the 1960s, the lowest uninsured rate in American history, the deficit is trillions less, the Dow has broken 40,000 and all three indices continue hover in record territory. Domestic oil, gas and renewable production continue to be at all time highs leaving America more energy independent than it has been in decades. The Wall Street Journal called the American economy the “envy of the world,” and the Economist just wrote about the unprecedented start up boom America is experiencing right now. Biden’s big three investment bills have dramatically accelerated the energy transition necessary to combat climate change and will be creating opportunities and jobs for our workers for decades to come.

Joe Biden promised to make things better for all of us, to get us successfully to the other side of COVID. And he has.

Here’s Gavin Newsom making the case for success of the Biden Administration yesterday in Michigan:

And for your weekend viewing pleasure I send along the latest version of my big presentation, With Democrats, Things Get Better. This 30 minute presentation is must viewing for all Hopium community members as it shows that since 1989 and a new age of globalization began when Democrats have been in the White House things have gotten better. With Republicans, we’ve seen the opposite - recessions, higher deficits and American decline. As I explain here, the repeated failure of modern Republican governments is critical to understanding how the Republican establishment lost control of their party to dangerous extremists.

With Democrats, Things Get Better is a spirited reflection on the greatness, and goodness, of the modern Democratic Party - something we perhaps all need to check in with this weekend.

A reminder that my position on the Biden candidacy is that I am giving him, his family and his campaign time and space, am not rushing to judgement. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are our candidates. Whatever happens, the campaign and fight goes on and we cannot let up. I am grateful for the passion and intensity of the discussion about our current moment in our paid subscriber chat - thank you all for this respectful and civil dialogue, recognizing we are all not in the same place on the path forward now.

Whether it is Joe Biden running this November or another candidate, we will be selling the success of the Democratic Party and his Administration, and this data, and this presentation are essential pieces of the case we will be making to voters this fall. So enjoy all! We need to be loud and proud about this remarkable party we are all part of…..

UK Labour’s Huge Win - From NPR this morning:

An earthquake in British politics.

With far-right politics ascendant across the English Channel in France, the United Kingdom has swung in the opposite direction. Official election results Friday showed a landslide victory for the country’s center-left Labour Party — its first victory in 19 years, since under the leadership of Tony Blair.

Incoming Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed his win as historic, saying early Friday: “Change begins now.”

“We can look forward again. Walk into the morning,” Starmer told supporters before dawn. “The sunlight of hope, pale at first, but getting stronger through the day.”

Here’s the speech Keir Starmer gave upon moving into 10 Downing this morning, his first as the Prime Minister of the UK. It is worth your time. Exciting day for center-left politics in the UK, and throughout the world.
